SRAM has had some early success with their XX1 drivetrain system in both the XC and Enduro arenas. Gone is the front derailleur in their 1×11 drivetrain and it has drawn quite a bit of attention from Enduro racers, XC racers, All Mountain riders, and everyone inbetween.

The heart of the system is their huge 10-42t cassette in the rear and their front chainring options (28-30-32-34-36-38). This gives SRAM the ability to have a huge range of gears to offer the rider without the need for a front derailleur. Watch the video below to learn more about the XX1 system with Tyler Morland.

For shifting, there is a grip-shift option as well as trigger shifter system. It is a very lightweight setup when you look at the weight savings of ~300g for comparable systems.

The chainrings are unique in that no pins or ramps are needed and the ring is machined in a special way to hold the chain. A new tooth profile alternates thickness by inner and outer links to help keep the chain on the ring.

The XX1 rear derailleur utilizes their Type 2 Clutch Roller bearing system to dampen chain movement and also is designed to only move horizontally since it’s a straight parallelogram.
