Dainese invited us during Crankworx to get a sneak peak at their 2017 lineup. Check out some of the details inside to learn more.
When it comes to protection, Dainese is a company who takes things very seriously. They’ve got a rich history in motorsports and have passionately embedded a lot of what they’ve learned into their cycling protection pieces as well. At Sea Otter they had some of their MotoGP products on display showing how well they worked at protecting riders which is no small feat.
Moving into their 2017 product highlights we were shown their new Trail Skins 2 pads. Available in a Knee Guard or Elbow Guard. These pads and many others in their range use their Fractal design which allows Dainese to engineer protection in key areas while still being protective. You’ll notice a tighter fractal clustering around the key areas to improve impact protection. Dainese studies where impacts occur to refine their pads and gloves.
Trail Skins 2 Knee Guards
The successor to the highly-acclaimed Trail Skins, the second-generation again sets the benchmark for breathability, ergonomics and protection. Delivering the ultimate blend of mobility and protection, the low-profile design delivers unrestricted pedaling and all-day comfort while still meeting European standards for impact protectors. Additional side padding bolsters protection against the most common crashes and dual micro-adjustable elastic bands ensure a customized fit for every rider
You can compare the Trail Skins 2 vs the Trail Skin below as well to see how they’ve refined the pads for 2017 with this new version. Trail Skins 2 are on the right.
Trail Skins 2 Elbow Guards
The Trail Skins 2 Elbow guards are also refined with similar updates and improved closures.
The second-generation Trail Skins take the legendary breathability, ergonomics and protection even further. Designed for an optimal balance between mobility and protection, the low-profile design delivers unrestricted arm movement and all-day comfort while still meeting European standards for impact protectors. Micro-adjustable elastic bands placed at the top and bottom openings ensure a customized fit for every rider.
Rhyolite 2 Safety Jacket
The fractals design carries over into their back protection items as well in their Rhyolite 2 safety jacket. The shoulder pads and backplate are designed with fractals and flexagon respectively. Allowing for breathability, flexibility, and comfort.
Trailknit Pro Armor Tee
A first for the bike industry, the Trailknit Pro Armor Tee is a functional base layer with the ability to seamlessly integrate protective elements to match your unique needs. Providing the benefits of a traditional next-to-skin base layer, including temperature regulation and muscle compression, the Trailknit Pro Armor Tee eliminates the need for multiple worn layers by incorporating protection directly into the structure. Constructed of high-performance Dryarn, it provides incredible breathability and insulation in a lightweight package. The low-profile design and ability to integrate Pro Amor padding means all-day comfort and protection
Trailknit Pro Armor Shorts
The ultimate next-to-skin chamois short, the Trailknit Pro Armor is constructed of high-performance Dryarn fiber and utilizes construction methods specifically designed for temperature management and muscle compression. To meet each rider’s specific needs, Pro Armor side pads can easily be added seamlessly into the shorts. The new Ener Dry Pad chamois features anti-shock gel inserts that limit overheating for all-day comfort in the saddle
The Dainese Tactic gloves offer minimalist slip-on protection. They’ve also embedded the fractals in this glove as well to protect you from damage in the areas where their research shows most often occurs.
Moving into their clothing items, they’ve also got some improvements in materials, design, and fitment. They’ve got clothing to cover trail riders, downhillers, and everything in-between in their Driftec, Trailtec, Hucker, Atmo-Lite 3L jacket, and Riding Jersey lineup.
