The 2014 Bell Moto 9 is a helmet that needs little introduction. It has a lot of cutting edge technology built into it that makes it a highly desired moto helmet. Many gravity riders often split duty between downhill bikes and dirt bikes and having one helmet that can work with both machines is often quite desireable by riders. Check out more details the Bell Moto 9 inside.
No excuses, no extra weight, and no BS. Simply put, the Moto-9 Carbon is the most advanced and progressive MX helmet ever. From the Ultra-light TriMatrix construction to exceptional features like the Velocity Flow Ventilation system and Flying Bridge Visor with QuickFlip adjustment, every inch of the Moto-9 Carbon was designed and developed for performance. – Bell
Certification:
Moto helmets used to be quite a bit more commonplace in downhill mountain biking. With the introduction of the new ASTM DH standards this provided more protection standards for manufacturer’s to uniformly march towards. Before this, many downhill mountain bike helmets didn’t offer quite as much protection as they do today.
Many riders still use a DOT certified helmet like this to still help protect their head and with many of us swapping time with dirt bikes it makes sense.
The 2014 Bell Moto 9 Tagger colorway that you see here has a lot of great features that have trickled down into their downhill mountain bike helmet, the Full 9.
The Bell Full 9 adopted a lot of things from the Moto 9
The Moto 9 is Eject compatible to help a paramedic remove your helmet safely from your head in the event of a crash.
Venting is important in a helmet these days and the Moto 9 delivers in this department as well. The over-brow vents allow air to channel over the head and out the back venting. You can see some of the vent channels in the photo above as well.
Additonally, the Moto 9 features magnetic cheek pads that are easily removable without any unbuttoning to aid in safe removal after a serious crash. The rest of the helmet padding is easily removed by unsnapping the buttons.
In addition to the magnetic cheek pads, they also removed the traditional d-ring snap with a magnetic one. When you’ve got gloves on it makes securing the strap much easier.
Magnetic D-ring instead of a button
The Moto 9 has some neat fasteners for the visor that allow you to flip them up halfway to get some leverage to snug down or loosen the visor screws easily in the field.
The Moto 9 offers protection that meets the DOT/ Snell M2010 standards. While mountain bike crashes can often be attributed as lower impact there are certainly cases when we’re going just as fast as a motorcycle.
The Moto 9 comes with a nicer helmet bag in my opinion than the Full 9. It’s lined quite nicely and the outer casing is definitely premium. There isn’t any additional storage pockets built into the helmet bag but there’s plenty of room inside for additional items.
Weight wise, the Moto 9 is light for a moto helmet. Our XL Moto 9 pictured here weighed in at 1554.2g. This is about 300g heaver than most downhill helmets. The Bell Moto 9 is a great option for riders looking for a sleek moto helmet with all of the modern bells and whistles.
