A crowd favorite year after year, the Sea Otter Classic Dual Slalom brings fans and racers from all over the world. Check out the results and pictures inside.
If you’ve ever been to Sea Otter, you know that Dual Slalom is the event you don’t want to miss. Professional athletes from across the world flock to the world class slalom course. Gated racing has taken a backseat to other events on the world stage but this event is always exciting and fun to watch.
With the course set very very similar to years past, the course has become better and better each year. Riders do tons of runs throughout the weekend in hopes of making the qualifications or the main show.
2012 winner Kyle Strait was on a mission to repeat his victory from last year but it wasn’t in the cards for him this year.
Santa Cruz Syndicate rider, Steve Peat, is always a crowd favorite and he managed to cut his way though some tough competition to the final race against Jared Graves. He raced on his new carbon fiber 650b Bronson and put on a show for everyone.
Mitch Ropelato has been training hard this off season and it’s being reflected in his riding. He signed on with Specialized for the full factory world cup tour this year alongside Aaron Gwin and Troy Brosnan.
Mitch Ropelato brought a mop to the Dual Slalom. Only a heat-stroke could end his chance of winning.
Specialized built some new Enduro SX frames recently in support of this and other gated races that still exist. He’ll be one to watch as he was looking poised to win until a heat stroke set in and he could no longer compete.Mitch got a fourth place overall, and didn’t race his last three races. He was poised to mop the entire field by our watch.
Jill Kinter has won the Sea Otter Dual Slalom four times now. She’s well versed in what it takes to win a gated race. She beat out the entire women’s field including Anneke Beerten, Rachel Atherton, and many others.
Jared Graves battled his way through the field. He was rewarded in the end with a win at the 2013 Sea Otter Classic. He won the 2012 Sea Otter Classic downhill as well so today we’ll see if he wins both of the 2013 gravity events.
