, Hitch Mount Tray Style Rack Roundup

Over the past couple of months we’ve been testing and reviewing a few different bike racks. The racks we’ve been reviewing have all been hitch mounted tray style racks from Saris, Thule, and Yakima. We reviewed these racks specifically because they work really well with freeride and downhill bikes. They offer minimal bike contact and are very easy to load.

While these racks worked out really well for our vehicle application, they may not work for everyone. Our vehicle was able to accept a 1 ¼” bolt on receiver hitch made by Curt Manufacturing. Even though the racks we reviewed were of the 1 ¼” variety, all of the manufacturers make a similar rack for the 2” receiver hitch. In our past reviews we’ve tried to include information on the differences between the two sizes in order to deliver helpful information to those with varying receivers.

In this article we will be analyzing the three racks in order to get a good idea of how the different racks compare to each other. Don’t expect a grading system for this review or a fancy point system. We’re going to simply state the positives, negatives, and differences of each rack and let you decide which rack suits your needs.
