Leogang is host to the final stop of the 2013 UCI World Cup Downhill. There was some snow near the area that had some riders worried about snow on the track but that concern was subdued slightly. The course is quite damp and there was some rain in the area that made for some exciting training for the racers.
Aaron Gwin skipped the last round and will again this week due to a shoulder injury. Brook MacDonald is also absent nursing a shoulder injury as well. By race day, many of the race many riders weren’t able to compete including Greg Minnaar (knee), Danny Hart (wrist), and Sam Hill (knee).
Aaron Gwin – Injury Update
In the morning we there was just about 7° Celsius and the mountains were foggy. Later it started to rain. When timed training started, the weather got better and the sun was shining.
The track changed in some places from last year. They added a few new sections and a tricky rock-garden.
A lot of the riders used mud tires in the morning but later they changed to intermediate ones as things dried out a little bit.
Steve Smith is hot off a win at Hafjell. Today he rode his “World-Champs” bike at Leogang. It’ll be interesting to see if he remains on-board this bike or swaps over.
Sam Hill was seen cruising down besides the track, hopefully he didn’t injure himself. It turns out he ended up messing his knee up and would not race.
