Canyon launches their 2020 Spectral:On eMTB. It features 150mm of travel in front and rear along with a mullet wheel setup: 29″ front wheel and 27.5″ rear wheel. Details inside from Canyon.
CANYON LAUNCHES 2020 SPECTRAL:ON— IT’S LIGHTER & EVEN MORE CAPABLE THAN BEFORE
The Spectral:ON is a Class 1 eMTB which means you’ve got to pedal to get any motor assistance from this eMTB (up to 20mph assisted). It is powered by you and Shimano’s E8000 drive system and a 504Wh battery – one of the most reliable e-assist systems available. Shimano’s lightweight and compact motor gives us the flexibility to design the best-handling chassis possible. What’s more, the E8000 system is capable of tripling your pedaling power with a smooth and natural feel that leaves you in complete control of your ride. The handlebars have cutouts for the wiring as well to keep the cords organized and they have outfitted a fibre reinforced skid plate at the motor as well.
Top tube mounted USB-C also allows you to keep your phone, GPS, GoPro, or other devices charged if needed along with the power button on top for easy access.
Today, Canyon introduces the next generation of Spectral:ON, a bike that’s lighter and just as nimble as its predecessor, yet even more capable on the most challenging climbs and descents. It features lightweight components were possible and 203mm rotors and 4 piston brakes to ensure stopping.
EVERY NEW SPECTRAL:ON FEATURES A CARBON FRONT TRIANGLE – WHAT’S THE BENEFIT?
Carbon can be used to make a lighter frame and we’ve accomplished that here. The new top-tier Spectral:ON is a full kilogram (2.2 pounds) lighter than its predecessor (21.6 versus 22.7 kilograms) and much of the weight loss is a result of the new chassis design.
WEIGHT REDUCTION, HOWEVER, ISN’T THE ONLY BENEFIT.
Going with carbon fibre also helps us reinforce the structure and maintain front-end stiffness while reducing weight in other parts of the front triangle. In short, carbon fibre always has that ‘looks cool and is super light’ factor, but we truly leveraged the benefits of the material here to improve the Spectral:ON’s ride quality.
The first-generation of Spectral:ON e-MTB was only available outside of the United States. That changes today when the second-generation Spectral:ON debuts in the United States in the form of the Spectral:ON CF 7.0 model. The Spectral:ON CF 7.0 will soon be available, direct to consumers, on Canyon.com for $4,999.
The most obvious change for 2020 is the Spectral:ON‘s sleek, carbon front-triangle and neatly integrated, internal battery. The new design sheds weight, is just as stiff, and, more importantly, lowers the bike’s center of gravity—improving the Spectral:ON’s already-impressive handling. We also fine- tuned the bike’s geometry and suspension kinematics with an eye towards increasing rider control, going up and down the mountain.
The Spectral:ON sports 150mm of front and rear suspension. This was also one of the first production “mullet” bikes of its era—sporting a 29” front wheel and 27.5” rear wheel. That’s still the case, though we’ve moved to a 27.5×2.6 tire on the rear, for a more precise feel when cornering. In short, this bike plays on the rowdy end of the e-MTB spectrum.
We made the suspension slightly more linear by changing the rocker design so that it exerts more leverage on the shock itself. It is designed to work with air shocks.
All Spectral:ON models are backed by the proven power of Shimano’s E8000 drive. And new for the 2020, there’s now an on/off button and USB-C charging socket conveniently located on the top tube. Charging the battery can be done on or off the bike.
We offer the Spectral:ON in four sizes, Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large, accommodating riders from 5’4” (166 centimeters) on up to 6’3” (192 centimeters).
Geometry adjustments have been made to this updated Spectral giving an additional 5mm chainstay length and 66.5 degree headtube angle.
While there are several Spectral:ON models available in Europe, Canyon United States is entering the American market with a single model, the $4,999 Spectral:ON CF 7.0. The Spectral:ON CF 7.0 comes equipped with a stellar parts kit that includes a RockShox Lyrik Select suspension fork, RockShox Deluxe Select shock, Shimano XT/SLX drivetrain, four-piston Shimano MT520 brakes, and an Iridium dropper post.
The Spectral:ON CF 7.0 also features a range of Canyon-developed parts, such as an e-MTB-specific SD:ON saddle, custom handlebar with internal wiring (for a clutter-free cockpit), integrated motor shield and chainring bashguard, and Canyon:ON direct-mount chainring.
Only the CF 7.0 model will be available in the United States at this time.
