Hiplok specializes in wearable locks and the Hiplok Spin is an economically priced combination lock that works well, is easy to use, and transports easily around the hip.
The Hiplok Spin is a 6mm hardened chain lock that uses a 4 digit combination lock. It has worked great for us around town, during a quick errand, or securing your bike whiel you enjoy a tasty post ride beverage. Hiplok offers more robust locks in their portfolio but this one ticks a lot of boxes for the way many of us use bike locks.
The lock easily secures around your waist and we found this to be a great place to secure the lock as it requires no clumsy mounts or bags to transport this lock.
Since it secures around the hip, the weight of our lock at 763.5g (800g claimed) feels much lighter since the mass is snugly around the hips.
The lock is adjustable around the hip (26″ to 44″) with its velcro closure system. It’s not the most high-end design but it works as intended.
At $49.99 given all of it’s features and portability it’s hard to not recommend this lock to anyone that has a bike. You don’t have to hold it and you’re hands-free to shred on the way to your destination with confidence.
Having to rely on a bike mounted lock can be challenging as they sometimes aren’t the sturdiest in our experience, often require carrying extra keys, and if you have multiple bikes it makes carrying one lock more challenging or expensive.
The chain itself is mostly covered by the outer nylon like casing giving it a little bit more visual deterrence for thieves. The combination is easy to set to whatever your heart desires with a simple learning position when you set it up.
The lock has a similar enclosing area as a standard U-Lock is available now for $49.99 in a neon yellow or all black (pictured).
