We were searching for a chain-keeper that would hold our chain on a 12mm axle to help during cleaning and came across one that works quite well. Check out the BikeHand Dummy inside.
We’re a fan of neat little tools that make jobs easier. The $11.99 BikeHand Dummy tool helps hold your chain like a cassette for cleaning or shipping / transportation.
If you’ve got a downhill or enduro bike chances are you have a 12mm axle. Some of the chain keepers available today don’t work with these bikes as they’re designed for a quick release exclusively. We ran into the BikeHand Dummy that works with a 12mm axle and is a handy device that lets you clean your chain and derailleur easily.
If you have a quick release bike, you use the entire assembly but if you’ve got a 12mm bike the wheel comes off and you install it with your existing axle.
The benefit of the Bike Keeper is you can also shift your derailleur which allows you to clean in the nooks and crannys that are hard to reach when the derailleur is close to the frame.
The plastic wheel itself measures a little bit bigger than 12mm so the wheel doesn’t sit snug on the axle but we’ve had no issues with it during our usage.
Overall the BikeHand Dummy tool is quite handy when it comes to cleaning your chain, derailleur, or transporting your bike in a bike carrier. If you’ve got a 12mm axle this small pulley is easy to store in your toolbox or vehicle if needed.
