Shimano Debuts Premium S-PHYRE Collection, its Most Advanced Road, Off-Road Cycling Footwear

New footwear concept showcases Shimano’s finest design, engineering and materials OSAKA,Japan(August 30, 2016) –

The result of extensive development and testing with elite road, cyclocros sand mountain bike athletes, Shimano announces itsnew S-PHYRE line of elite performance cycling footwear. An ambitious concept aligned with Shimano’s aim to create the most technologically advanced cycling solutions available, S-PHYRE has one goal: to maximize power transmission by delivering more performance per gram, minimizing aerodynamic drag and refining efficiencies between the bike, footwear and rider. NewS-PHYRE performance cycling shoes also include complementary socks for road, cross-country and cyclocross racing.

New construction techniques and improved comfort

The one-piece outer onS-PHYRE footwear is made from supple,stretch resistant and highly breathable Teijin Avail microfiber synthetic leather with perforated dimplevents, that are even more flexible, providing a glovelike fit.

The surround wrap upper also better accommodates a wider range of footshapes, now enabling up to E+ widewidths in a standard size. Accentuating the all-new upper design,two independent Boa IP1 dials with Powerzone wire lacing allow for quick and precise micro-adjustments.New S-PHYRE footwear features a new outsole construction technique that eliminates the lasting board, reducing weight and the stack height, resulting in improved stability and increased power transfer. Additionally, an external heel cup suppresses foot twist and roll, allowing for maximized power output through the ultra-rigid carbon sole.

S-PHYRE XC9
The S-PHYRE XC9 is road-shoe fastmeets mountain-shoe rugged. Packed with many of the same engineering advancements foundin the RC9, the XC9 hasa glove-like fit and low stack height for maximum power transmission with the performance neededto excelinprofessional off-road and cyclocross competition.

The XC9 uses a new lightweight cross country and cyclocrossspecific outsole that is more durable and provides good abrasion resistance. Its proprietary outsole was designed in conjunction with Michelin, offering increased traction off the bike while minimizing weight thanks to high traction, mud-shedding tread patterns. The outsole has a minimalist, three section outsole with dual-compound rubber, a lighter triangle knob design and new anti-slip arch pattern to provide extra grip in the mid-arch section.For the ultimate grip in sloppy conditions, optional new extra-long 18mm toe spikes are accompanied by a reinforced spike mount. Designed to perfectly integrate with SPD pedals, Shimano delivers the ultimate off-road race pedaling system available. –
