Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Lakes, Calif. – After a long winter’s nap the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is set to awaken, opening the 2014 season on May 24 for Memorial Day Weekend. With new terrain features, the return of the Kamikaze Bike Games and over 80 miles of the best single track around, the 2014 season at Mammoth is poised to be the best yet.

“The sport of mountain biking has progressed so much in the last 30 years, and the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park has always strived to be at the forefront of progressive and creative trail construction,” said Gabe Taylor, Sports Marketing Manager. “This year we’re excited to continue expanding our terrain features, including the addition of the pump track. We also have a full lineup of events, camps and races throughout the summer, culminating with the Kamikaze, which has quickly become one of the sport’s can’t miss events.”

New this year, a pump track adjacent to the Discovery Chair (Ch. 11) will offer riders of all abilities a ridiculously fun 2-wheeled experience. The closed loop of rollers and berms is designed to be ridden without pedaling. Instead, riders use their body weight, pushing down after cresting a roller, and in the process converting gravity into speed. The pump track is in addition to the Pioneer Practice Loop and the Skills Park, all part of the arc of progression at the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park.

The Kamikaze Bike Games are back in 2014. Set to take place Sept. 18-21, the Kamikaze is one of mountain biking’s most storied events and was the first ever lift-accessed race when it debuted in the mid 1980s. After a nearly decade-long hiatus, Kamikaze returned last year with mountain biking’s past and present converging on Mammoth for a weekend of races, demos and gravity-induced fun. Now in the second year since its return, the 2014 iteration promises to be the biggest and baddest yet, featuring a new cross-country course and a two-stage cyclocross race that will challenge all comers.

Season Passes for the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park are now on sale, offering unlimited lift-accessed riding off the Panorama Gondola, Village shuttle and Discovery Chair. Season passes are $349 for adults and $149 for children (with discounts available for MVP pass holders). More information on ticket prices can be found on the Mammoth website here.

Lessons are available throughout the year from the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park’s staff of professional instructors. The industry-leading beginners program is a great starting place for riders new to downhill, teaching fundamentals like body positioning, braking techniques, and bike control. Full day and two hour guided tours are also available for riders new the mountain or looking for advanced instruction.

Ladies Only at the first-ever Leigh Donovan Women’s Mountain Bike Camp. Scheduled for July 23rd – 25th, the world champ will host a weekend of mountain biking, yoga, wine and fitness. Intended to be a fun and relaxing siesta in the mountains, the itinerary is also designed to get participants on a bike and cruising downhill safely, with confidence and technique.

Rocky Mountain Bikes will again supply the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park rental fleet. Mammoth’s expert staff can help fit and tune a bike for a rider of any size and ability.
