British Cycling’s National Downhill Mountain Bike Series round 1 at Antur Stiniog takes place on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of March 2014. Steve Peat will make a guest appearance at the movie premier. This is a UCI Category 2 Event and you can read more about the event inside from the BDS which includes a helmet camera run.

The 2014 race season kicks off in style this weekend for the Shimano BDS – British Cycling’s National Downhill Mountain Bike Series round 1 at Antur Stiniog on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of March 2014.
All eyes will be on this brand new venue as the BDS circus rolls into town as we race down this epic course which has been carved out of the beautiful Welsh hillside. A totally open course up top with zero coverage from trees means the riders will not only have to battle the unforgiving track in front of them but also whatever mother nature can conjure up.
The whole series sold out in January, with a full house of 320 riders booked in from all ages and categories. Expect to see a close battle with the Schwalbe Elite Womens field comprising of the cream of the British crop with Atherton, Carpenter, Griffiths, Stone, Curd, Walker, Lacey, Greaves and Seagrave all racing.
The Schwalbe Elite mens category is stacked with over 50 World Cup racers, take your pick from Atherton, Peat, Bryceland, Hart, Beaumont, Simmonds, Dale, Smith, Brayton, Reid, Jones, Mears, Buchanan, Atwill, Molloy, Cunningham, Heath, Williamson, Pandur and so many more.. all chasing a share of the £10,000 series prize money.

Expect to see the Pro’s rolling out their World Cup bikes and all their latest kit in preparation for the South African World Cup. How many will be rolling 650b big rigs? That big question will be answered next Friday as the pro pits begin to set up, as everyone is still tight lipped and keeping their cards close to their chest regards bike choice.

The Course: Man made obstacles are in abundance along the whole length of the course with several large jumps, berms and a huge almost vertical rock roll near the bottom of the course will be a magnet for the spectators which are expected to be in their thousands..
Length – 1.9km.
Start altitude – 485m.
Finish altitude – 250m.
Vertical descent – 235m.
Fastest time 2mins, 30 secs.
Course rating (1-5 with 5 being very technical): Rating 4.
Spectators: Spectating is free for everyone. Parking is available on both Saturday and Sunday over the road from the venue in the quarry car park with a charge of £2.00 per vehicle which will go to the Welsh Air Ambulance. Please bring the correct change if possible and do not park on the side of the main road as this may result in the Police closing the event down.
Toby Parodi, the voice of the BDS will be on hand all weekend as will Monster Energy, track side again, fueling the riders and bouncing the tunes off the surrounding hillsides with their big PA and sound system to keep the atmosphere electric.
A Notice Board will also be on display in the Race Office/Rider Registration area for displaying information regarding the event. Onsite Catering providing fresh hot and cold food and refreshments from 07:30 to 20:00 on Friday and Saturday, 07:30 to 18:00 on Sunday. Toilets will be provided, including disabled, urinal and women-only facilities. All will be serviced on Saturday evening and re-stocked throughout the weekend.

Prize Money: The fastest riders overall from the Male Junior, Senior, Expert and Elite will receive prize money in accordance with the UCi guidelines.
Rose Bikes Biggest Winning Margin £100.00. The rider who beats the rest of the field in their category during their race run by the biggest winning margin (There must be 10 or more in the category). In the event of a tie, the rider with the fastest race time will be declared the winner.
Ethic Watches Fastest Time of the Day £100.00. The rider who records the fastest time of the day in their race run. In the event of a tie, the rider with the fastest race time in seeding will be declared the winner.
Works Components Fastest Time Through the Speed Trap £100.00. The rider who records the fastest time of the day in their race run. In the event of a tie, the rider with the fastest overall race time will be declared the winner.
Steve Peat Wont Back Down Film: Showing in the local town on Saturday night at CellB. With a guest appearance from Steve Peat, the man himself in the flesh. The Postcode is LL41 3AD. Parking is available for free in the local town car park, located on the next street. Doors open at 19:00 with the film starting at 20:30. A fully licensed bar will be serving drinks and there will also be hot food available. The venue will close at midnight. You must be 12 years of age or older to gain admittance. Tickets will be £5.00 cash per person and available at race registration and available to riders only to purchase on a first come, first served basis. If any tickets are left over they will be made available at race HQ from 11:00 on wards on the Saturday. Please note you can not pre-order any tickets or asked for any to be set aside.
