The guys at Point One Racing showed me a new pedal they’ve been working on. It’s still a prototype at this stage but the changes they’ve done to the pedal are impressive from the looks of it.
This prototype pedal certainly has resemblance of the current Podium pedal but in a more refined way. They’ve made a lot of subtle changes that you can see. We shot a video of how they make the current Podium Pedal in the USA that we’ve posted in the past. They’re not 100% sure that this will be called the Podium pedal when its all finished.
Prototype pedals - trying a few different finishes
The Point One Racing Podium Pedal has always been one of our favorite go-to flat pedals and this new prototype looks to improve upon that pedal when it comes out.
You can watch the video to learn more but some of the key highlights in this current prototype stage include
Lighter and thinner design
a closed axle
bearing bulge has been reduce near the crank arm
new traction pins with an m5 body
moved the traction pins from the outsides of the pedal
~300g currently with a cro-moly axle
slightly reworked pedal width
more chamfering on the edges
Release date – 2014 tentatively
The bearing that sits next to the crank arm has been revised and is now slimmer making for a much smaller rise at the crank end of the pedals.
You can see additional shots of this new prototype pedal in the gallery.
