RockShox had a few key updates to show off at Sea Otter this year. They’ve updated their Monarch RT3 shock, updated the graphics on the BoXXer, and introduced a new 650b SRAM Rise 40 wheel size as well as a 650b Revelation fork.
The buzz at Sea Otter was 650b and RockShox had an answer. Their new 32mm legged 650b Revelation has a travel range of 100-150mm. Also gone is the dual-air system for these shorter travel forks and in its place is a solo-air spring system. The 650B Revelation fork is available with an option for a cable actuated Push_Loc for remote control lock-out operation from the handlebar. The Push_Loc control also works with other RockShox family forks as well. It’ll be interesting to see which of their OE partners have plans to spec this 650b fork and we suspect it is a big one.
650b Revelation and 650b Rise 40 Wheelset
Continuing down the 650b path is the new SRAM Rise 40 650b offering. SRAM already has a 26″ and 29″ wheel sized offering and they’ve added the 650b Rise 40 model to the lineup.
The new RockShox Monarch RT3 has been revamped as well. They’ve reworked the internals to allow for better tuning for OE (think bike manufactures) applications to improve rebound and compression circuits independently. The three compression settings follow similarly to the RCT3 found on their forks. Rebound updates as well include a “rapid recovery” system to allow the shock to rebound faster over successive hits. The compression dial (blue) also is now able to move 360 degrees in either direction with the 3 adjustments at 120 degrees each. A firmer lock setting was also integrated into this new RT3 damper. It is available in black or white.
2013 Boxxer World Cup
Moving onto the bigger travel side of things, the RockShox BoXXer is a favorite amongst many riders and for 2013 it sees some new graphics along with the Vivid Air. No new changes were discussed internally with the fork / shock at this time.
The new look is refined and the logos are integrated into the finish. The black coating seems more matte in color and should be a nice look.
