2012 e.thirteen by the Hive LG1 TR, 4 x 120 Guidering, and Geared Hubs

4/16/2011 : sicklines

e.thirteen by the Hive had a slew of new products at Sea Otter. They had a new guide, guiderings, and geared mountain hubs. Check out all the details inside.

Geared Hubs

e.thirteen has released their hubsets for XC and AM use. The XC hubs are all aluminum while the AM hubs have a carbon body bonded with aluminum flanges like chub’s hubs. Both hubs offer interchangeable axle end caps to switch between axle sizes.

Using the same internals across all hubs, e.thirteen worked hard on the freehub design on their hubs in order to give the hubs a high amount of engagement points (60), while still maintaining low drag. They have designed their own system on their own versus using an off the shelf Taiwan system like many other manufacturers. The freehub system uses 3 pawls with 6 degrees of engagement for increased traction. Each of the pawls has 2 engagement points. Both engagment points lock in place at the same time. This basically disburses the load more efficiently, increasing durability.

You’ll notice the flanges are very large on the e.thirteen hubs. This is a trait they’ve brought over from chub that allows the hubs to build up very stiff and strong wheels due to the larger flanges. Theses hubs will be available in 6 bolt disc only, no centerlock.

At Eurobike e.thirteen plans to release their full wheelsets featuring these hubs.
