2011 XTR M980 Product Information

Rider Tuned

IRVINE, Calif June 21, 2010 — New XTR M980 acknowledges the uniqueness of the different disciplines that the sport of mountain biking has evolved into. XTR’s Rider Tuned philosophy allows a rider to choose drive-train and braking options that best fit their style, use, and terrain. With Rider Tuned component options, XTR remains a relevant fit for any enthusiast or professional.

XTR’s Dyna-Sys drive-train results in greater efficiency and shifting stability – regardless of terrain, bike, or riding style. Options for multiple doubles or a triple further enhance a purpose-built drive-train solution.

The completely revamped XTR hydraulic brake system also features options that suit extreme trail use to lightweight cross-country. Servo-Wave precision control, ICE Technologies heat and fade resistance, and a variety of rotor sizes allow enthusiasts to perfectly match braking performance to their trail of choice.

New XTR with Dyna-Sys continues to offer benchmark performance and efficiency with unprecedented options allowing the rider to choose their optimal set-up. New XTR is Rider Tuned.

Ice-Tec

Shimano is introducing a completely new cooling technology for disc brakes named “Ice-Tec”. Ice-Tec brake pads and rotors significantly reduce heat build-up in the disc brake system. This in turn reduces fading, which assures consistently high braking performance even on long downhill stretches. It also results in longer pad life and substantially quieter braking.

Ice-Tec brake pads have been provided with an aluminum radiator fin with a stainless steel two layer back plate structure. Ice-Tec rotors have an aluminum core sandwiched in stainless steel for improved heat dissipation.

I-Spec

The new XTR offers an integrated mount system for the brake lever and shift lever, named “I-Spec”. With I-Spec, only one clamp band is needed which looks good and saves space on the handlebar besides saving around 10g. Horizontal microadjustment is possible for a customized set-up.
