Easton Havoc DH wheelset

For 2009, Easton has introduced a DH specific Havoc wheelset. Their goals with the Havoc wheelset was to have a strong wheelset that is still light with a higher lateral stiffness than the competition.  Handbuilt by Easton, these wheels are built to last.  See more on the Easton Havoc DH wheelset inside.

The Havoc DH wheelset comes in a 150/20mm variant, but there is also an AM Havoc wheelset available. The front hub on the AM version will feature a quick change axle making it easy to convert between 9mm, 15mm, and 20mm.

The Havoc DH wheelset features a new 32mm wide extruded rim with reinforced eyelets that have 28 holes.

The 28h front hub is pretty robust and features two double row bearings in the disc side.  The 20mm adapters have O-rings on them to secure them in the hub so take care when transporting the wheelset as they can come out.

The 28h rear hub has 30 engagement points and feels positive and secure.   It’s a pretty quiet hub overall as well.  The rear hub features double row bearings on the non drive side for increased strength.

The wheelset uses proprietary DH spokes with brass nipples and Easton says they’re 46% stiffer than 36 2.0 straight gauge spokes.  Often with factory type wheelsets, they are machine built  but these wheels are hand built by Easton so they’re ready to just bolt on your bike and go which is very nice.

Overall the build quality is very nice on the wheelset.  They’re not the lightest downhill wheels you’ll find, but they do pack a lot of features that downhillers need in a wheelset like strength and stiffness.  We’ll be testing these out more in the coming months so look out for more as we get more saddle time on these wheels.  For more information, visit Easton’s website – www.eastonbike.com.
