We took some time to talk with Nick Larsen, the founder of Charge Bikes, to find out more info on the company and the products they make, specifically the Spoon saddle.

What was your main purpose for creating the Spoon saddle?

“My main aim when designing the Spoon saddle was that I wanted to use the same saddle for everything from epic enduro rides to 4X and DH racing so it had to be comfortable, supportive, the right size to help with control and it had to look good fitting in with the rest of our products. Simple, functional, fit for purpose – like all of our products. ”

Where did you come up with the name Spoon?

“All Charge products are named after household objects, Spoon just seemed to fit with this one.”

Tell us a little bit more about Charge Bikes and the company philosophy?

“Charge Bikes is a UK based bicycle company specializing in simple yet functional hardtail bicycles and frames with a distinct and contemporary styling. Our frames are designed using carefully selected tubesets that are fit for their purpose without the need for big reinforcing gussets or oversized tubes. Charge products range from the ultimate cutting edge titanium frames that lead the way in performance and lightweight design to the high quality, great value steel frames and sensibly spec’d complete bikes. We intend Charge to be a breath of fresh air in a world of generic hydroformed aluminum, carbon and expensive, complicated dual suspension designs.”

What type(s) of rider is Charge’s target audience?

“We’re not looking to aim our products at one particular type of rider, we’re a bicycle company not a cross country, BMX, road or dirt bike company. We ourselves ride pretty much everything anyway so obviously we make things that we want to ride. The type of rider that would like our stuff is someone who doesn’t necessarily want to conform to the idea of buying from a big brand but will be someone looking for something a bit more unique that still performs at the highest level and we hope that the style we’ve brought to our components and frames will appeal to people that not only want to ride hard, fast and have fun whilst looking good doing it!”

The Spoon saddle rides as nice as it looks. It has been well received by many magazines and publications. I haven’t got a bunch of time on the saddle but the time I have had was enjoyable. The saddle feels supportive with its mid-size width and is easy to adjust to fit different riding styles. I felt the Spoon was padded enough to smooth out bumps while not being overly bulky. The leather is easy to clean and the black stitching helps make dirt less noticeable.

The Spoon is worth taking a look at if you’re in the market for a new saddle and are looking to try something new. The Spoon is available in Brown, Black, Grey, or White with tubular cromo rails as well as Black leather with Ti rails.

What type of distribution network do you have currently and looking for in the future?

“We’re currently looking for distributors all over the world including the US and Canada. We have a few countries on board already in the UK, Japan and Portugal. We want people that get what were about and that will be able to offer our brand the kind of support that our partners in those countries have already shown us.”
