Yakima HighRoller

Analysis:

Weight breakdown:

Depending on your setup, some pieces may or may not be needed as far as the main roof rack is concerned.

Each Highroller tray weighed 15.29lbs.

As a comparison, a Yakima Viper tray weighs 9.26lbs. The Yakima rack system’s total weight with Qclips, 48″ crossbars, and stretch kit with two Highroller’s weighed in at 54.2lbs.

HighRoller Dimensions:

The HighRoller measured right under 9″ x 56″.

Adjustability:

The HighRoller is a very adjustable rack. It can hold wheels from 20″ to 29″. By simply adjusting the front and rear wheel trays a large range of bikes can be easily secured. Adjusting the HighRoller was quick due to the simple adjustable mechanisms making the rack easy to adapt for different loads.

The rear wheel tray slides and can latch from either side. The latch is redesigned and now can’t fall out of the trough while tightening.

Security:

The locking system is clean and helps deter theft. It easily stows back inside the rack when not in use. The adjustable cable should be able to secure most bicycles. The locking cable can also be used to secure the HighRoller to your roof bar system when not in use.

Stability:

The HighRoller takes up a bigger footprint on the bar system itself to give a bit more stability over a Yakima Raptor or King Cobra. In windy conditions and over rough terrain the HighRoller is adequately stable without liberal swaying.

Construction quality:

The HighRoller is constructed nicely and has a lot of benefits over other tray type racks. It uses metal in the vital areas, but uses plastic where it can to cut back on weight as well. The wheel tray locking system is great and now there is a channel for the wheel straps to go in perfectly. All the retention pieces can be tighten with your fingers, so it makes adjusting a tool-free setup.

Cross Compatability:

The HighRoller is compatablie with factory racks if you use the mighty mounts and you can use the HighRoller on square or round bars.
