Transition BottleRocket
Areas of Expertise:
If you’re looking for a multi-purpose bike, this very well might be the bike for you. The Transition BottleRocket excels in a lot of varying riding situations. It takes pretty much everything you could ever want to dish out at it and asks for seconds. The bike feels snappy and pedals extremely well. When riding the bike aggressively you feel like you’re inside the bike and it helps to instill confidence in a vast amount of high speed and technical maneuvers.
Trail Riding
- The BottleRocket wasn’t designed for trail riding but if the bike fits you well, it can be ridden on trails with ease. The BottleRocket can accept a front derailleur so in the event you have to pedal uphill it can handle it. The pedaling efficiency of the BottleRocket makes it a breeze to pedal and the geometry works very well when the terrain gets vertical. The BottleRocket can accept a full seat post with ease. If you’re going on a longer ride however, you have to carry the water on your back as there aren’t any holes for a water bottle cage.
Dirt Jumping
- The BottleRocket like a real bottle rocket loves to take flight. The BottleRocket is a cool customer when it comes to air travel and it’s easy to maneuver due to the sloping tubes, geometry, and the overall balance of the bike. Often when jumping bikes you have to compensate for the bike feeling unbalanced (either weight-wise or geometry-wise) but the BottleRocket has a very stable feel and you can change your flight plan on demand.
Urban Riding
- The BottleRocket fits in perfectly in the Urban category and can make urban riding even more fun. The rear end is not squishy but can help smooth out the ride. The geometry of the bike makes it easy to stay on the rear wheel and allows you maneuver it in whatever direction you choose. The bike is built strong and can take a beating. We took the bike to Ray’s MTB Indoor Park on one of our trips and it handled everything with ease.
Skateparks
- The BottleRocket’s geometry makes it easy to do tricks and maneuver the bike in the skate parks. The rear shock doesn’t interfere too badly when in the skate park and it is easy to predict what the bike is going to do.
Downhill’s
- The BottleRocket can handle downhill’s quite nicely. One might scoff at a mere 5.5″ of travel, once you realize what a finely tuned 5.5″ bike can handle any misconceptions you might have had will go away. While the travel isn’t bottomless, there is more than enough useable travel to conquer general downhill drops and obstacles. It might not win you a downhill race but it is definitely capable of getting down just about any downhill with a competent driver.
Freeriding
- This bike is strong and built tough. The BottleRocket is not too heavy that you can’t throw it where it needs to go and the stability of the bike helps it maintain balance on the skinniest of the skinniest. Whether you’re on the ground pounding or in the air flaring the BottleRocket keeps you in control. You know what the bike is doing at all times and like a loving mother its responsive and attentive to your every command. The bike is easy to maneuver and you can get off the back of the bike very easily which is really nice when the trail turns steep.
Slopestyle
- This bike is perfect for the slopes and parks like Whisler and Diablo. That is what it was built for. It rails corners, handles drops, and flows almost effortlessly down the slopes.
