Thule T2

Issues and Concerns:

Safety:

Depending on your vehicle the rack could pose several safety hazards. Due to the fact that the rack holds the bikes close to the rear of your vehicle tail light and license plate visibility can be diminished. The T2 does not come with license plate relocation hardware. Rack width shouldn’t be an issue with the rack being wider than your vehicle but do make sure to check the dimensions for proper fit.

Locking Hardware:

Thule does not include locking hardware with the T2. You can purchase locking hardware in the form of locking hitch pin and a locking cylinder that fits into the front wheel arm. Thule also has steel cable lock available for added security. We strongly suggest securing your bikes with the cable lock method as this is a relatively strong visual deterrent as well as more secure than the arm lock method.

The hole below the Thule logo is where the locking cylinder is placed in order to secure the arm in place.

No hitch pin security:

A solid bolt with a locking washer is used to secure the receiver to the hitch. This in itself is not an issue and will cause no problems but I would have liked to have seen the use of a pin to secure the bolt from vibrating lose and possibly detaching. I don’t feel that it is likely that the hitch pin would ever do this on a trip but the extra security would be nice to have seen.

Freely moving rear wheel assemblies:

As I mentioned earlier in the review the rear assemblies are fully adjustable up and down the tray. This is nice for quickly adjusting the rack for varying wheelbases but when stowing the rack presents a problem. Since they can freely move about when driving the assemblies slide around a lot and make noise from banging into the rack. It looks like you can slide them in between the arm hook and the central support but since there is a little play in the arm they still manage to wiggle free. To prevent this I simply secured the assemblies to the arms when it is stowed. There is no mention of this in the instructions but it was the only option I could see in order to secure the assemblies from moving about.
