Smith Warp Star Goggle Review
Lenses
The lenses on the Warp Star are all color matched to go with the goggle body. Our particular model had the blue lens. The blue tinted lens looks good and delivers a very clear view when looking through the lens. The best way I could describe what the blue tint does is make things look cleaner due to the blue tint, much like H.I.D. headlights do for a car.
Lens Highlights
- Smith makes each lens out of impact-resistant Lexan which was very clear during testing.
- The Lexan lens passes CE motorcycle standard EN 1938 for impact resistance.
- The Warp Stars all feature color coordinating lenses which look great.
- The lens of the Warp Star is secured the same way as other Smith models we have tested and is not difficult to change.
- The lens provides 100% protection from harmful UVA/B/C rays.
- Smith has developed several lens tint options for the Warp models in order to allow for the rider to tailor his goggle to the lighting conditions.
- Smith has Racer Pack options available for those looking to use Smith’s Roll Off system to clear their vision during adverse conditions.
- Due to the width of the frame the lens offers plenty of peripheral vision with no drastic cut off.
- Prescription insert is available by using Smith’s ODS
Lens Issues
- There are no tearoff posts installed on the stock or accessory lens. You have to either buy adhesive posts for tearoff’s or use the Roll Offs system for vision clearing.
- The tinted lenses have no anti-fog treatment applied. The clear and XCL lens do have anti-fog treatment applied.
- Fog buildup can be quicker when using this goggle due the face’s proximity to the lens, smaller ventilation openings, and lack of anti-fog treatment. Breathing on the lens created instant fog where as a typical goggle with anti-fog treatment will see none.
- No prescription inserts are made available.
- The lens is relatively simple to change but could be made easier by using a pre-curved lens for quicker installation into such a flexible frame.
