Smith Top Fuel Goggle Review
Goggle Body
The Top Fuel’s body is relatively conservatively styled. Smith has many other models that are pushing the envelope in that arena so it’s nice to see a more subdued design. That’s not to say the Top Fuel isn’t good looking. With matching colored lens and fade paint job the Top Fuel is very slick. The goggle body itself was easily flexible and the face foam was soft.

Body Highlights
- The flexible frame allows the goggle to conform to the rider’s face easily.
- Articulating outriggers helped apply even pressure to the face and adapt for different helmets.
- Peripheral vision was on par with no obstructions or vision cut off (without Roll Off canisters installed).
- The Sweat X F.A.T. 3 triple-layer face foam was soft and thick enough to easily contour to the face while also being able to keep the sweat issues at a minimum.
- The strap is extra wide and easily adjustable with silicone beads for extra grip.
- Various colorways with matching lens are available.
Some improvements to the goggle body
- The inside frame of our Top Fuel was painted white which can cause light to reflect into the rider’s eyes. If this were black or a darker color it would cause far less glare and vision issues in bright light.
- A majority of the strap is white which begins to show dirt quickly.
- Rock/Nose guard has to be purchased separately.
- While there is venting around the frame of the goggle, the openings could be much larger, especially along the bottom and sides, allowing more airflow and better temperature management. We experienced no fogging but airflow could be greater if the openings were enlarged.
- With the Roll Offs system installed your peripheral vision is diminished due to the size of the canisters.
- The Top Fuel, like a few other goggles we have tested, has a smaller opening in the face foam. It is suited more towards those with smaller faces as there is not as much breathing room around the eyes as with other products.
