Saris Cycle-On Pro
The Product:
The Saris Cycle-On Pro as stated before is a hitch mounted tray style rack. We are reviewing the 1 ¼†version of the Cycle-On Pro which was attached to a Curt Manufacturing 1 ¼†receiver hitch. I’ll be sure to mention any differences between the 1 ¼†version and the 2†version as Saris does make both sizes.
Features:
- Minimal bike to rack contact – The way that Saris secures the bike to the rack is slightly different than Thule’s and Yakima’s method. While the front wheel is secured much the same, the rear wheel is secured via a rotating cuff that is horizontally adjustable. Once in place the cuff rotates down to secure the wheel. The cuff itself ratchets much like the arm allowing for secure adjustment for different bikes. The inside of the cuff has a rubber spacer so that the rim is not scratched.
- Quick and simple bike loading – Bikes are easily loaded and unloaded via the ratcheting arm and rotating cuff.
- Adjustable – The rack has two different wheel tray installation locations allowing the ability to carry bikes with 20†and larger wheel sizes. This means anything from road to BMX to full on downhill bikes can be loaded on the rack. Both the arm and cuff are fully adjustable in multiple directions allowing the ability to securely attach any bike to the rack.
- Universal wheel tray – The wheel tray is engineered to hold just about every tire on the market. We were able to put a downhill bike with Kenda 2.5†tires on it without any problem The tray is narrow enough to securely hold a road tire and curves outward to accommodate bigger tires.
- Can carry additional bikes with add-on’s – Both 1 ¼†and the 2†versions of the rack can accept applicable add-on’s to fit one or 2 more addition bikes on the rack. Be sure to check the product manual for model numbers and acceptable bike weights.
- 120lb weight capacity – Our review Cycle-On Pro rack was model #4017, so it can carry two bikes as heavy as 60lbs a piece.
- Stows when not in use – The rack folds flat and rotates upwards when not in use.
- Locking hitch pin and cable – Saris provided a locking pin for the hitch and a thick braided steel cable protected in plastic that was sufficient to wrap up both bikes safely as well as a lock to secure the cable to the rack.
Installation:
Installing the Saris Cycle-On Pro only takes a few steps. The major components of the rack are already assembled for you. Saris includes all the hardware needed for construction. You will however, need to provide your own tools for installation.
The steps you have to perform are as follows:
- Install wheel trays into correct location for 26†or 20â€
- Insert hitch and secure with pin.
- Tighten knob to secure hitch to the receiver.
- Attach the rack to the hitch.
