Oakley Crowbar MX Goggle Review
Lenses
As would be expected, Oakley has a very good lens. Optically speaking it is very clear and has some nice standards compliance. Oakley has created many lens tint options in order to tailor the amount and type of light transmitted for various situations.
Lens Highlights
- The lens is treated with a F3 anti-fog treatment, which helps greatly in reducing the amount of fog buildup. During testing no noticeable fog build up occurred.
- Each lens provides 100% protection against UV rays.
- Lens is made out of scratch resistant Lexan.
- The lens surpasses ANSI Z87.1 and EN 1938 for resistance against impacts. This is nice to know that you’re wearing goggles that are tested for safety and don’t just look nice.
- Oakley offers several options for replacement and accessory lens for the Crowbar MX.
- The lens has built in tearoff posts for incorporating Oakley’s laminated tearoff system.
- The tearoffs install and function properly with minor clarity degradation.
Lens Issues
- Anti-fog treatment is sensitive to handling in order to prevent scratching to the inside of the lens.
- Lens is not the easiest to change or replace due to frame tolerance and lenses that are not pre-curved.
- Replacement and accessory lenses are not cheap.
- Oakley doesn’t offer prescription inserts.
- The outrigger tearoff post that keeps the tearoff flaps tucked away is only on the left side of the frame.
