Blk Mrkt Riot

The Build:

Frame:

Blk Mrkt Riot (22″)

more pictures of the frame can be found in the gallery (click to enlarge)

The Riot frame is made out of 725 cromo. The 2008 Riot comes in two colors (Black or White) and is available in two sizes (21.5″ or 22″ top tube). It features horizontal dropouts and is disc specific. The headset uses an integrated design which works quite well and looks clean. The frame weighed in at a scant 5.9 lbs.

Fork:

X-Fusion Velvet R

detailed pictures of the Velvet R can be found in the gallery (click to enlarge)

The X-Fusion Velvet R fork is quick release but it has proved to be more than enough for this bike. The travel can be adjusted internally and the feel of the fork has been butter since day one. The air fork setup complimented the frame nicely and was very easy to dial in. We set it up to be fairly stiff and only there to take the edge off. Our fork is set at 80mm and is one of the smoothest air forks we’ve used which was nice. It doesn’t have compression adjustments but for this bike, it works perfectly well and was easy to setup since it was just air and rebound settings to tweak.

If you’re looking for a rigid 26″ fork, Blk Mrkt has got you covered. It is called the Contraband and is made in the USA by S&M. They say the weight will be 2.49 lbs featuring an axle to crown of 435mm and a 33mm rake. It uses an aluminum extrusion and is meant to be ran brakeless. The lowers are double butted steel legs and it uses S&M’s 4Q Baked Pitchfork technology with 3/8″ dropouts. MSRP on the fork is $129.99.

Wheels:

For the front hub we went with something a little different than your typical setup. Since the front fork was quick release, we wanted a bolt on hub over a traditional quick release wheel. We didn’t run a front brake, so a disc hub wasn’t needed. For these reasons we went with a track hub which allowed for a strong wheel build. So far it’s worked great and provides a nice solid setup.

For the rims, we selected Halo Freedom rims (same rim as a few other manufactures, like Syncros DS28) and we used brass nipples and DT Straight gauge spokes.

For the rear hub, we picked the Profile mountain bike Single Speed hub. The hub itself is made very well and has stellar engagement. The wheels roll for days without signs of resistance. The Profile rear hub comes in a variety of colors and variations to dial in the perfect setup. We opted to go with a micro drivetrain and ran one of their 11t drivers (9t-18t available for drivers). If you’re looking for a disc single speed hub, the Profile one is a stellar choice and is very strong and durable.

Seat / Post:

more info on the Tibia seatpost can be found here (click to enlarge)

We opted with the deity Tibia post and the Fizik Flash dirt jumper saddle. The 8mm setup has proved to be quite strong and provides a nice interface to not only sit on but grab a hold of with the thighs. The post is pretty easy to set up and is light to boot with some nice styling by deity.

Cranks:

For cranks we are running the FSA X-Drive crank arms with the Euro bottom bracket. FSA offers a ti spindle option as well for those looking to save some weight which is nice. The cranks are stiff and have a clean look to them that matches our build concept.

Stem / Bars:

Blk Mrkt Bada Bing bars come in a 28″ width but we chopped them down a little. It’s nice to have the option to run wider bars. The Underboss stem also gets the job done and is quite light and stylish. The bars have a very nice feel to them and with the integrated headset the bar position can be set up in a multitude of variations.
