2007 Devinci District
Areas of Expertise:
The Devinci District 2 is a good hardtail bike that excels in a lot of areas. Whether you want to dirt jump, ride some urban, or ride at the skatepark, the District 2 can do it. The District 2 isn’t the lightest hardtail, but even at ~36lbs it was pretty easy to move about.
Dirt Jumps
The District 2 feels very at home on the dirt jumps. The bike does sit a bit higher than I typically like but it wasn’t anything that couldn’t be overcome. The District 2 comes with a good build kit for dirt jumping and the Kenda K-Rads did well on the dirt jumps. They’re not the widest of tires, so it wasn’t quite as cushy as a 2.4 Maxxis HolyRoller. Coming up short can be a bit harder on the body.
In the air, the District does well and the short chainstays help to control the bike well before the bike even takes off the ground. The bike is easy to toss about and there weren’t any issues commanding it around the dirt jumps at will.
Urban / Park
The District 2 does pretty well in the Urban/Park environment. The bike manuals well and has a nice balance point. As mentioned above, it does ride a little high but if you change out a few parts, it gets even better. The Daredevil stem/bar raise the bars up a good bit so if you’re looking for a lower feel, swapping these out can help that out a bit.
When riding urban/park, often you have to sit to get where you have to go or in between sessions. The Daredevil saddle did not feel very comfortable and the seatpost in its stock state can’t orient the seat angle quite high enough if you like a little upward angle in your seat. Moving the post in reverse allowed for the saddle to get a nicer angle but the seat still is uncomfortably hard. The Tektro brakes work, but still aren’t stellar brakes. Locking up the Tektro brakes was a bit arduous but for the price of the District 2 it wasn’t surprising.
The Dirt Jumper 3 was equipped with 20mm dropouts and felt solid when landing and moving the bike about. In urban, a solid feeling bike is key in knowing what your bike is going to do. The District 2 felt solid and it is confidence inspiring to ride. Devinci included a lot of name brand parts on the District 2 such as the Sram / Truvativ drivetrain. It’s mostly lower level but it still performed very well. The shifting was solid and predictable. The chainguide never dropped the chain and provided great protection for the drivetrain. All these points are key in urban as you don’t want to second guess your drivetrain when trying to do moves that require confidence.
