Pivot Cycles Interbike 2008
For 2009 Pivot Cycles has a new bike, Firebird, aimed at the all mountain, trail, and freeride genre’s. Designed in house with the help of Dave Weagle on the kinematics of the suspension, the bike has a lot of interesting features.

The features of the Firebird are outlined below:
- Offers 6.7″ of travel

- There are manufacturing advantages for having the shock attached to the lower link and allows them to tweak the shock rate throughout the bike’s travel. The floating lower shock link made out of 7075 aluminum.
- Chain is encapsulated and can’t drop off the granny ring

- The upper link is made of carbon fiber

- The Firebird has a floating derailleur mount that helps to allow the direct mount derailler to track the chain through the travel. The reason it is floating is not so you can shift through the travel but it does allow the derailleur to retain the chain better, allowed Pivot to not have to drop the chainstays, and overall strengthened and stiffened the back end up.

- Shock options they’re suggesting are the RP23 on the more AM version and the new Fox DHX on the freeride builds
- 1.5″ headtube, tapered steerer setup is what they’re recommending (1.5 lower, 1 1/8 upper)
