Formula Interbike 2008
Formula introduced the Mega and The One earlier in the year. We’ve been running the One’s on some bikes and so far they’ve proven to be some impressive brakes. You can see our preview on the ONE’s here. New at this Interbike however, Formula came out with a some lighter brakes, and a revised K24.

Formula revised the K24 to have a lever activation similar to the ONE / Mega and also gave it a more Bianco like lever feel. The lever can hyper extend so in the event of a crash, you won’t pull out the push rod. Adjusting the lever reach is also much easier than previous Oro’s and it will come in white this year.

The new brake, the R1, is aimed at the lightweight crowd but delivers more power than the Oro.

Weighing in at a claimed weight of only 270g (post mount setup, front brake, 160mm rotor) they come stocked with organic pads and can also utilize the same pads as the ONE / MEGA. The caliper itself is forged for extra strength. Currently this is the lightest brake available and is aimed at the Enduro / XC market.

The levers can be flip flopped easily and sit a bit more planted on the handlebars than the Oro. The lever blade itself is made of magnesium. The master cylinder has been reworked quite a bit and they say it has improved a lot.

The stock color will be black, but some OE’s can get blue or polished with carbon lever (on that $13,000+ Scott Genius LTD!).

The Formula rotors also have gotten a little bit lighter and we’re told perform even better.

Formula continues to develop their brakes to perfection. Made in Italy, these brakes aren’t cheap to make, or purchase!
