Interbike 2008
Assorted Bits from Day 7
Cane Creek was showing off their 110 headsets. They have a wide variety of vibrant colors and also had on display some 1.5 headsets (XXC-II and XXII), 1.5 zero stack (XXII-Flush). In addition they offer the newer combination tapered style 1 1/8 upper and 1.5 lower options as seen on Trek, Giant, Yeti, Specialized, and more.

The Double Barrel needs little introduction with Cane Creek and Ohlins teaming up, but the basic features are independent 4 way adjustment (hi/low compression, and hi/low rebound). There were a few tweaks done to the Double Barrel but the basic functions still remain the same with it as well as a portable tool they offer on the CCDB’s for trailside tuning.

It’s also available in a plethora of sizes to fit just about every full suspension bike out there. The shocks are hand built in the USA. Cane Creek has now revised the end of shaft/eyelet (where other manufactures typically have the rebound) to accommodate more frames more easily. DT Swiss
DT Swiss has created a new rim, the FR600, they were showing off that replaces the 6.1. The FR600 will also be on the new 2350 wheelset. The weight is the same as the 6.1 (~600g) but features a harder alloy.

FOX Racing Shox

Fox was showing off their limited world championship FOX DHX RC4 and 40 RC2. Rachel and Gee Atherton won Worlds this year so these limited FOX goods have some custom decals. The FOX 40 RC2 is engraved as well (1 - 200).

The new shock features hi/low speed compression, rebound, and bottom out. Paired with the custom world championship 40 RC2, FOX has valved both of these limited bits to perform at the top level. Check the gallery for more detailed pictures.

Mavic was showing off their new Deemax and Crossmax SX wheelsets as well this year. Lighter weight and redesigned hubs ensure better compatibility and more reliability. They both feature more engagement as well. Read more at the Mavic website and see more pictures in the gallery.

SRAM

SRAM had all of their brands on display in their booth (Truvativ, RockShox, etc). The big item we were anxious to see in person was the new Boxxer available in 3 different variants. We’ve covered the unveiling of the new Boxxer before but we got to talk to the SRAM reps about some of the new features. This will be a highly coveted fork come early 2009 and for good reason.

Part 2 Videos:
Jonas showed us the new e.thirteen guides and they look quite good. They’ve fully revised their LG1 and SRS chain guides. Release is slated for the first quarter in 2009 on these guides. The Staccato pedals are slated for a second quarter release 2009. They’re updating the internals a bit we’re told in the aim for perfection.

Blk Mrkt

Blk Mrkt (pronounced Black Market) had a bevy of hot looking bikes on display. We’ve always been a fan of Blk Mrkt’s USA made bikes with their clean lines and attention to detail. We were really happy with our Riot that we built up a while back. It rips!

For 2009 Blk Mrkt has changed up the color ways on the various models to keep things fresh. They’ve also revamped some of their other bike parts giving riders new and exciting choices. The Underboss stem will now be available in 31.8mm and the BadaBing bar will be replaced with the BadaBoom bar which offers a lower rise. The 31.8mm will be available in 1.5″ rise x 30″ length or 2″ rise x 29″ length while the 25.4mm version will come in 2″ and 3″ rises. They will feature improved internal butting profiles for a stronger bar. Blk Mrkt will also feature a limited edition of their Underboss stem in a polished finish as well as a limited Mob’s in chrome. Carter is also working on a 24″ bike that is sure to be a winner.

Corsair

Corsair’s booth was busy as usual. They had all of their bikes on display. We’ve covered the Corsair lineup already in previous posts. The Crown DH bike always looks good on display so we thought we’d snap a picture. Check out our previous articles or the Corsair website for more info.
Easton
Easton Havoc wheelset (click to enlarge)
Easton had their updated 2009 Havoc wheelsets on display. Their Havoc wheelsets are built to be strong yet light with higher lateral stiffness than the competition. For 2009, Easton has come out with a downhill specific wheelset. They feature a new 32mm wide extruded rim with reinforced eyelets. The Havoc DH version comes in a 150/20mm variant, but there is also an AM Havoc wheelset where the front hub will feature a quick change axle making it easy to convert between 9mm, 15, and 20mm. Both of the DH wheels feature 28h rim/hub. They use proprietary dh spokes with brass nipples and Easton says they’re 46% stiffer than 36 2.0 straight gauge spokes. Additionally these wheels are hand built.

The Havoc DH wheels will feature 28 single butted DT spokes front and rear. The claimed weight is 2295 grams. The AM Havoc with have 24 triple butted DT spokes front and rear coming in at a claimed weight of 1930 grams.

Easton will also feature a 15mm x 100mm axle adapter for front hubs as well as a 10mm thru-axle adapter for rear hubs for those looking for something a little stiff than a standard QR setup. You can find more information on Easton’s website.
Foes

Foes had their new RS7 on display in their booth. It’s designed as a 7″ travel DH race bike for tight and technical courses. Full details are below:

GT Bicycles
2009 GT Fury (click to enlarge)
GT’s newest downhill machine, the Fury, was prominently displayed in front of their booth for all to see. Word on the street is Marc Beaumont will be ripping up on this next year. The Fury features a carbon fiber frame which consists of a one piece front end and one piece rear end. They used carbon fiber for the frame material for strength rather than it’s light weight characteristics. It will still feature the “I-Drive” suspension system (now called “Independent Drivetrain”) of the DH-I but will have some geometry tweaks with design input from previous team rider Bryn Atkinson. Manitou
2009 Manitou Dorado (click to enlarge)
Dorado makes a comeback this year and they’re aiming for the highest of the high end. Offering a custom tune from the factory, this Made in the USA fork packs a lot of features as well as a MSRP price of $2775. Custom setup for you and your riding style as well as a support package they feel is far superior (rebuilds, overhauls, etc). Contact hayes/manitou for more details.

Dorado is revamped completely and now has a dual layer carbon outer legs (previous Dorado only had one) to increase stiffness and durability. It’s also internally adjustable to 180 - 203mm.

Dorado for 2009 is an air fork featuring high speed compression, low speed compression, and rebound. There are many other internal tuning elemets they’ve incorperated and this Dorado is nothing like the old. It also has a claimed weight of 6.4lbs.

Niner

Niner had their redesigned 2009 R.I.P. 9 on display. It features a lot of trickle down concepts learned from their longer travel WFO 9. A full feature list is below:

Rocky Mountain had slew of new colorways for the Flatline. We were digging the white the most. Check the gallery for other colorways.
SDG
SDG Patriot saddle (click to enlarge)
SDG had a few new saddles (5 to be exact) on display including their Patriot that we already mentioned in our Interbike Media Kits post. The Patriot is designed to be a DJ/Urban/BMX saddle offering a light weight yet strong construction. It uses the I-Beam system and features a kevlar cover with a smaller overal size.

SDG has also added more colorways across the board to their saddles. The snake skin model of the Bel-Air RL caught our eye. They also have a new adapter available that lets you put a traditional railed saddle on a I-Beam seat post which we thought was a nice option for riders. Specialized

As you may have heard Sam Hill is rumored to be riding for Specialized for 2009. Specialized had one of their 2009 Demo’s kitted out with many of the sponsored parts from Sam’s current bike only in a less familiar Red and White color scheme including some UCI world cup stripes on the non drive side chainstay… I’m sure we’ll find out more about exactly what Sam’s 2009 plans will be as the off-season unfolds, meanwhile you can check out some of our more concrete 2009 Specialized coverage here.
Straitline

Straitline had a smaller booth this year in the BTI display area. We’ve already shown you their 2009 Pinch Stem in a previous post. One item that was new that we hadn’t got to see yet was their Boxxer direct mount stem. They had a couple on display for everyone to check out. Currently its a shorty stem (~28mm, claimed weight of 137g with all the bolts). It wont fit every setup but if you’re looking for a short integrated stem on your Boxxer, this is about as short as we’ve seen.

Sunline had a couple of new grip models on display. Both were lock-on models similar to their current offerings with new patterns and colorways. The new model names are Twisted Waffle and Big S. The Twisted Waffle design is supposed to be for those that like a thin grip with lots traction and the Big S grip are for those looking for a larger diameter more cushioned grip.

Thomson

Thomson had their highly anticipated and much requested seatpost clamp on display. It will be available in most common sizes with both silver and black colorways. It is machined from billet aluminum and features a nice inner lip so the clamp sits straight on top of the seatpost tube. It felt lightweight and will offers the quality you’d expect from Thomson. They didn’t bring their direct mount stem as they’re still working on it.

Tioga
Tioga TwinTail saddle (click to enlarge)
Tioga has went back to the drawing board with their Spyder saddle. They had 2 new versions on display. One aimed more at XC and road riders and one more for more rugged use.

The two new models are named the TwinTail and D-Spyder. The TwinTail still has the same thin type webbed design like the old Spyder while the D-Spyder is a bit more beefed up to make it more durable and strong. Both come in black and white colorways.

Vario
Vario Techno (click to enlarge)
Vario had their gearbox bike, Techno, out for everyone to see. It features a single pivot suspension design built around SRSuntour’s gear box. The rear dropouts are adjustable with and 210mm of travel and features a 65 degree head angle.

2009 Rockgardn Videos
Rockgardn was showing off some of his new helmets for 2009 and above you can see the Warbird series helmets and some small updates to his Blacklite helmet.
Rockgardn was showing off their updated riding apparel (aka. kit) for 2009 and above you can see what they have to offer in the video above.
Rockgardn has body armor for everyone. Women often get the short end of the stick when it comes to armor specific for them, so we shot a little video on some of the women specific armor Rockgardn carries.
2009 Elka Suspension Video
Elka Suspension is new to the mountain bike scene, but have a history in powersports. Developed and manufactured in Canada, Elka has lots of potential in the mountain bike arena. Check out the details of the Elka Stage 5 in the video.
2009 Turner DHR Video
Turner Bikes have adopted DW-Link technology for 2009. The DHR has gotten reworked a bit and we talked with Dave Weagle and Todd from Turner Bikes to get the info on the latest DHR. Price is still TBD.

Bell

Bell had a few new colorways of their latest full face helmet, the Drop, on display. Cedric Gracia and Brian Lopes get their own colorways that are hard to miss as you walk by.

Evomo

Evomo Venom
Bryan Thombs from Evomo didn’t have a booth this year (past Interbike booth) but he was running around talking to people showing off his newest designs. Evomo is a California based clothing outfit specializing in bike related designs. Evomo’s shirt and print quality is top notch with some interesting designs. We’ve always been a fan of his Hurl shirt and his two newest designs that we got to take a look at, Venom and E800-3D, aren’t bad themselves.

“For you computer geeks that wonder how we did it, well, we used Autodesk 3d modeling software to design the E800 robot from various frames, suspension components and chainlinks. Giro

One of the items we were curious to take a look at from Giro was their Score MTB goggle. They had it on display in both white and black colorways. The Score goggle features a clear Lexan anti-scratch lens with tear off posts and silicone-backed strap. The Score also has an accessory lens available in Grey as well as tear off packs of 12. Giro also had a few new colorways of their classic Remedy full face helmet. We’ve already taken a look at the Zombies version in an earlier news post.
O’Neal

O’Neal had a plethora of helmets on display. They had their 9, 7, 5, and 3 series helmets on display for people to check out as well as helmets from RockHard. RockHard helmets are a specialty limited edition produced DOT helmet with licensed graphics of major bands.

RockHard will number each helmet individually and only produce one run of each band. They have over 300 licenses already under contract so if they don’t have your favorite band out yet, check back later. Check the gallery for more helmet pictures.
Oakley

Oakley Tool Box 4.0 backpack
Oakley had their massive booth packed with lots of MTB goodies. From new goggle colorways to backpacks Oakley has the MTB market covered with products for every type of riding. Check inside to see what we took a look at.
RockGardn

RockGardn Summit gear
RockGardn wasn’t at the show but they did have a full display at a secret location (a Venetian hotel room). RockGardn brought along a few new products to show as well as some of their staple products with a few revisions. Check inside to find out what RockGardn had to offer.
Royal

Royal Acid Lime Race gear
Royal has stepped up a little bit this year and offered a more divers array of products and color options. Their race kit was some of best looking of the show. To find out more of what Royal had to offer check inside.

SixSixOne Evo glove with D30

THE - Toby Henderson Industries

Toby Henderson’s THE ONE helmet for 2009 will sport some very graphic colorways. Continuing their all over graphic style from last year’s Vegas THE has added a few more paint schemes that will have you taking a second look. With names like Ink, Empire, Red Vine, Coliseum, Hollywood, and Electric THE has given riders a lot of choices. Check the gallery to see all the THE helmets from the show.

Day 4:

SH-AM40 shoe
Shimano’s presence seems to grow more and more each year. This year was no different and with the revamped Saint gruppo, the new battery powered Dura Ace, and their custom shoe fitting station, their booths were hopping to say the least. Check inside to find out what Shimano has to offer.

Elka Stage 5 shock
Elka Suspension had a few of their new bike shocks on display. Many people in the biking world may not have heard of Elka but they very successful in the powersport industry. They’re now adapting their technology for those using pedal power. Check inside to find out what Elka has to offer.

Sam Hill Impact 2 Low
Five Ten has revamped their line adding new colorways and new models. Kovarik now gets his own shoe with a lace covering! Check inside to find out more of what they have in store for 2009.

Formula R1 lightest brake on the market
Formula Brakes has released the lightest brake on the market as well as some revisions to the K24. Check inside for all the details on these high performance brakes.

Intense Uzzi prototype
Intense had their newest prototype version of the Uzzi on display as well as their completed Tracer VP. Intense will also be offering their hardtail Tazer DJ for sale in 2009. Check inside for all the details on Intense’s new models.

POC protection products
POC is a protection company based in Sweden. They started out in the skiing industry and are now launching gear for bikers. Their products incorporate high tech materials and innovative design to protect riders better. Check inside for details on their many protective products.

Pivot Firebird
The Pivot Cycles Firebird is new this year and aims to be a bike for the all mountain / trail and freerider. See more info inside on the Firebird.

Knolly’s newest DH race prototype
Knolly has set out to make a DH race bike. With goals of sub 11.5lbs while still utilizing their dual four bar linkage system, they plan to embody all the features everyone loves about Knolly into a dependable and very capable DH race bike. See more info on the DH race prototype here.
Day 1:

2009 Turner DHR
For 2009, Turner bikes have adopted the dw-link technology on their entire lineup. The DHR pictured is the new 2009 version and has high expectations from both Dave Turner and Dave Weagle. See more on the 2009 DHR here.

e.thirteen’s newest chainguides
e.thirteen components have revised their chainguides for 2009. Needless to say, they’ve reworked just about everything about their SRS/LG.1 guides to not only reduce the weight of their chain retention systems, but also reduce their complexity. See more on the 2009 e.13 products here.

Tyler at twenty6 products was showing off some new parts and one of the neat ones he had to show off was a direct mount boxxer stem. It will be made of 6061 aluminum. The weight is said to be quite low at 130g and offers a wide variety of adjustment options in terms of length (45mm, 50mm, 55mm).
