I'd love to change, but if I can't get a reasonable amount for the Demo I'm fine with that. Looks like I'll be stickin' with it for another season, then ending up with a Sunday, Socom, Morewood, Commencal, R9, etc.

This is my "All Mountain" rig...Balfa 2 Step FR.

Funny thing about it is that it was an original Balfa design until lately. Now under Weagle's "original" patent, it's become a DW Link!

This is my vintage 2003 downhill rig. Still killer in my opinion:

Very nice! A Lahar is on the list of bikes i'd love to try out. Are those ti spokes on the front of the Lahar? I wish they had trigger shifter's for the Roholff's.

Hopefully the Honda RN-01 comes out as well...

How heavy is that racelink?

turtle
06-13-2007, 08:35 AM
Yeah they're DT Ti spokes,Can't say I trust them,I can't really notice the aparent flex from them, but I did have a single track completely fold over in a real mild slow crash. I smashed that silver Deemax in the other shot so I went back to the Ti back up wheel. That Ti set up(Hope Bulb+Singletrack+stans)is at least 5oz lighter than the Deemax with UST Maxxis.
Twit shift aint that bad,it's not like Sram/Shitmanno twit shift,it's got much frimer clicks and is a bit harder to activate, trigger would be nice but if it was heavier, that would be enough reason for me not to run it,twit shift is ok.
BMW weighs about 47 I think,I had it with 40s at just under 40lb with Ti spokes etc etc.

jvnixon
06-13-2007, 12:53 PM
Looks solid though. I've never been impressed with Deemax's factory built wheelset's. I've had the silver set before, sold them shortly after getting them. 823 rims are great, those hubs/spokes on the Deemax's didn't impress me. Decent weight you got at ~40lbs.

turtle
06-13-2007, 10:41 PM
Yeah the Racelink at 40lb had 40s,Hope Bulb+single track+xc tube front,823+michelin rear+Hadley rear,Ti spring,Ti spokes,SDG I-beam,thomson stem,Syncros Carbon bars,Hope headset,XO mech,XTR calipers/XT levers,Syncros BHT front tyre, could have probably knocked another pound out loosing the Hadley and a few other select bits. I'm fairly sure it was 39lb anyway but without checking for old posts where I weighed it I'll go with under 40lb,it was the lightest I've seen built but still strong.
Excellent bike ;)

I really can't see any bennefit from maintanence, weight, reliability, performance, rarenes s, style, versatility, cost(?) that the Honda would out do the Lahar. The unknown quantity is the Showa suspension, but even that is very questionable and or matchable.
Just because Honda are giant in the moto industry doesn't mean shit on our turf. :D

I won't deny any of the above claims as I've never ridden one but the appeal is definitely there and would be a push in the right direction to get the gearbox rolling in the right direction I think. As far as i've seen, no one can confirm its weight, performance, maintenance, or cost so that's all to be determined.

Sure we've seen all the honda guys tearing down/rebuilding Minaar's bike but I don't think that necessarily means it will be high maintenance or not reliable.

As far as out-doing a Lahar, I don't think that's the goal or purpose. Lahar doesn't have the capacity to produce bikes like Honda. Lots of people are turned off by the full carbon Lahar frame no matter what the track record may be.

Here is my rig. It's great for everything here in Ontario. Nice and small so I can whip it around really easily. And its bullitproof. Some Deity parts to come soon hopefully. It's just a generally fun bike.

Hopefully a full on DH racing rig for next season. We will just have to wait and see.

Nice! What bike are you looking to build to race on?

familybikingmusic
08-07-2007, 11:43 PM
I was looking at the V-10 and it seems to be at the top of my list.

However I was also checking out the Iron Horse Sunday's. I really like the frame and building one of them up is a seriouse possibility as well.

Along with the Devinci DH race rigs but I am not sure if they offer frame only, because if I was to get one of them I would build it up since the Daredevil house brand parts are a real turn off.

I really liked the complete kit offered with the V-10 and that is the one thing that really put them on top of the Sunday. The frames both seem to be proven and incredible but SC's build kit is spot on.

Those three are just the top contendors.

As far as i've seen, no one can confirm its weight, performance, maintenance, or cost so that's all to be determined.Mine weighs under 39lbs,41 is easily acheivable with a normal build.I'll get mine on some bike scales for a pic one day.
Performance? Current Jr Worlds.
Reliability? The first year of production(01),the first five Lahars raced in New Zealand were underfeated for the whole year. They took the top five places at every race. All five of those bikes have been raced every season(about eight now)in NZ and around the world without a failure.
Camaeron Cole's Worlds winning bike had been raced overseas for a year without maintanence and before that race it had new chain, cables and 25ml of oil changed in it's gearbox. This is all every Lahar needs every year(not cables, and chain is a chain but oil once a year or 5000km).
They have pressed in headset and BB bearings that are the same, they're sealed bearings that any bearing suplier would stock, most Lahars(possibly all,I'm not sure)are on origonals anyway.
In Australia here they cost $6500au for frame,Rohloff,Fox DHX5,rear carbon hub,Rohloff chains,Saint cranks, integrated headset and BB,oh and seat post clamp.
Sure we've seen all the honda guys tearing down/rebuilding Minaar's bike but I don't think that necessarily means it will be high maintenance or not reliable.True but it's safe to say it'll be lucky if it's even half as reliable as a Lahar. As far as out-doing a Lahar, I don't think that's the goal or purpose. Lahar doesn't have the capacity to produce bikes like Honda. Lots of people are turned off by the full carbon Lahar frame no matter what the track record may be.Yeah apart from all the Honda technicans talking with the designer of Lahar at the NZ Worlds Lahar wouldn't even be a blip on the radar due to sales.
For the sake of argument, ignorance is a weak excuse for justification not to buy something.

That quote was meant for the Honda not the Lahar

For the sake of argument, ignorance is a weak excuse for justification not to buy something.

While that might be true, the reality is there are definitely people who wouldn't get it/trust it because its carbon no matter what the facts might be.
