Hello.
I would like to know how to make a custom 6 speed dh cassette (like the one in the socom build) but for SRAM x9 deraliur and x7 shifter.
Thanks

Ben,
You don't have to run a Sram cassette just because you have a sram x7 shifter and an x9 derailleur.
You can run any 9 speed cassette so you can use shimano ones or sram ones without a problem.
If you're set on Sram cassettes, you can look up the gear clusters. You'll have to pay attention to the gears you're looking for and make sure they're available as cogs. Some cassettes (shimano and sram) have bigger clusters (more cogs connected together) so you may run into needing to do some research to end up with the cassette you're really looking for.
Shimano (and probably Sram) has in their tech section the break down of each gear cluster and which gears are connected in a given cluster (shimano denotes this with a square around the numbers). The rest is just adding spacers to make up for the cogs that you removed.

I first saw this on Nico Vouilloz's bike in Champery and have been running it since then. You are the first people I have seen who have also done this. Everyone else thinks i'm crazy.....

I had a 4 speed on my STP, I just took apart my cluster chose the cogs that I wanted and threw them onto the hub. Then put the lockring on I am sure that a 6 speed would work in much the same way.
