2012 Race Face Turbine Crankset 2×10 and More
Race Face is back for 2012 and kicking strong. Inside we take a quick peek at the2012 Race Face Turbine cranks.
When it comes to mountain bike cranks, it’s safe to say Race Face knows a thing or two. Made popular initially by their burly North Shore inspired design, Race Face has what it takes to make a set of solid cranks. As time progressed, they refined their cranks to be more competitive with the likes of Shimano and SRAM.
These Turbine 2×10 cranks feature their signature I-Beam arm profiling and their smooth shifting, made in Canada Turbine rings. Intended for anything from top level XC racing to aggressive all mountain riding, Race Face designed the Turbine to be a high performing set of aluminum cranks.
They are available in a variety of chain ring configurations and bottom bracket options as well. Arm lengths include 170, 175, or 180mm.
The non driveside crank arm connects to the driveside crankarm in a pressfit interface that snugs up with a single 8mm bolt. Previous owners of Race Face cranks might have remembered there was a good amount of elbow grease required to install but this system has been revised and it takes much less effort to snug up these cranks.
Shimano’s BB92 setup has been showing up on a variety of new 2012 bikes from Turner, Commencal, Intense, and Devinci to name a few. Race Face offers their cranks in this setup as well as BB30 and the conventional 68/73 option.
The BB92 cup is designed nicely with edges that can take a hit when it comes time to replace or remove the cups as the interface to remove them is made of metal.
If you’ve got a conventional 68/73mm setup, Race Face still offers that option as well as a BB30 option. The Turbine bottom bracket has received some updates since we’ve last checked it out including a refined profile and additional machining in a lighter weight package. If that’s not enough, they now ooze with Phil Wood grease and have a variety of other updates including the following.
- Custom 6805 16 ball retainer bearings with Titanium coated races that ensure unparalleled corrosion resistance.
- Bearings feature a custom triple wiper seal to better retain grease and keep contaminants out.
- Bearings are factory filled with Phil Wood waterproof grease – tested and proven to extend bearing life.
- Cups are forged and CNC machined from aerospace 6066 aluminum.
Our crankset you see here is a 26t – 38t 2×10 model. If that’s not your cup of tea, Race Face also offers a lot more for you to choose from. In addition to that, the chain rings are made in Canada and feature various machined ramps and pins to help ensure solid shifting.
Race Face offers a triple option as well as a double with a bash option.
