2010 Crankworx Colorado Slopestyle – Semenuk Takes The Win and Best Trick

A very exciting Slopestyle event went down today with Brandon Semenuk taking the win and best trick. Full results, photos, and report inside.

Winter Park, Colo., July 31, 2010 – The third day of competition at Crankworx Colorado at Winter Park Resort’s Trestle Bike Park was nothing short of spectacular.  By noon, spectators began pouring in around the slopestyle course, designed for optimal visual impact, as the best freeride athletes took their turn on a linear and technical course providing a jaw-dropping show for all. Though the sun provided blue skies, the wind played a factor during big air tricks catching spinning wheels and adding another obstacle for riders. As expected, Saturday was a fan favorite with even more to watch and enjoy at 2010 Crankworx Colorado.

“I’ve been at Crankworx Colorado for three years, this year was a more technical course in terms of speed and transition,” said Brandon Semenuk, slopestyle and best trick champion. “This was my first time doing the front flip in competition and the wind was tough. I was on edge when I caught a couple of funnels. It was nice to make it to the bottom. I’m excited.”

Crankworx Colorado’s 2010 Slopestyle can be summed up in two words – Flip Whip.  Brandon Semenuk pocketed $8000 for winning both Slopestyle and Best Trick with his first ever attempt of a front flip in competition, which was gracefully landed.  Having only practiced once on dirt and in foam pits prior to Crankworx Colorado, Semenuk wowed the crowds and other athletes.

Yannick Granieri placed second in Slopestyle, praising the course and saying how amazed he was to place so highly. “I had a goal of top 10, maybe top 5, but to place 2nd is amazing,” said Granieri.
