e.thirteen LG1+
The new LG1+ from e.thirteen components is available now and inside we give you the rundown of what you can expect out of their latest chain guide. We took a look at their other new guide, the SRS+ as well so be sure to check that out as well if you missed it.
If you’ve used the previous LG1, this new guide while functionally similar, represents a lot of hard work to make a better product. Details inside.
The LG1+, like the SRS+, sees a lot of revisements that are designed to offer additional functionality, easier setup, and lighter weight all packed in an overall better package.
Installing
Notable features:
- Alloy hardware
- Available in ISCG-05 or ISCG-03. If you need a bottom bracket type mount, the ISCG-05 version comes with one.
- Captive hardware - the custom nuts stay in place so there’s less fiddling with nuts and bolts once the guide is on the bike
- Pivoting upper guide - the upper guide snaps onto the upper bolt and pivots to make chain removal and installation an easier operation. The upper slider is a single bolt design and features a riveted upper slider that rotates up and out easily to clean the drive train, change chain rings, or chain removal.
- Adjustable - One guide for them all. The new guides have a Narrow(N), Regular(R), and Wide(W) option to accommodate whatever bike you might have.
- Clean markings - the guide has preset points on the upper and lower roller to help aid in easing installation.
- Available in a 32-36t version or 36t-40t.
- Wider back plate at 5mm to increase stiffness
- Bash guard sits closer to the drive train for better protection.
- Honeycombed to save weight and increase stiffness
- The bash guard is 13 millimeters thick and tapers in both directions forward / backward.
- Smaller form factor than the previous LG1
- Machined back plate to increase stiffness and save weight
- The bash guard and the LG1+ back plate are designed to work together. The bash guard has pockets inside it that the back plate fits inside of. This gives the guide some additional stiffness, security, and absorbing capabilities.
- The lower roller cage is one molded piece for additional stiffness and has some cutouts to help in shedding mud / water. The new tech3 idler pulley installs inside and is designed to be more durable in the long run without any additional noise compared to the tech2 idler.
Impressively, the new LG1+ bash guard is designed to protect better, is bigger, stronger, and is lighter.

Old LG1 taco on the left vs. the improved LG1+ on the right
Once mounted, the LG1+ was easy to set up and align properly without any modifications (almost too easy).

Price: $150 MSRP (no price increase over last years model)
Look to see the e.thirteen LG1+ at your local bike store. e.thirteen also touts that the guides are also made in the U.S.A. which is nice hear. The 32-36 version is nice for guys looking to run on all mountain type bikes that the previous LG1 couldn’t go down to as easily. Installation (front , back) was a breeze and no modifications were necessary to set it up. It bolted up to our bike almost too easily. The revised instructions are easier to follow and essentially don’t require any reading given the detail in the drawings. If you’re looking for a more conventional chain guide, check out their SRS+.
e.thirteen really sought to achieve (and improve) a lot of things with this new guide and so far it seems they’ve accomplished them all while raising the bar for those in the chain guide business. Available now through BTI (any good shop can order through them) , QBP, Silverfish (U.K), and e.thriteen.

I rode this at Platty this weekend. Its is strong, light and not to expensive. I got all three with this sob

it looks a bit borring!!! i’m not sure about this one?!?
Dude, racers dont care about looks (well i dont anyway). It’s all about how much faster its gonna get you down the hill
It LOOKS boring?!?! It’s a chainguide!
It’s lighter, simpler, and the same price as the old one - what’s not to love?
Nice!! but what i dont get is that Santa Cruz says LG1 with taco will not have a warranty, so with this new taco?? same thing?? also why do you show the chainguide with a V10??
Thanks for the concern Andres, but we’re not concerned about voiding the ISCG tab warranty.
But you should be concerned about setting a good example.
Kids are going to look at that and think if Sicklines are
running a taco then it must be ok to do this.
Certainly if something is unsafe we’re not going to try and promote it. Plenty of people run these style guides without issue (even the older first generation guides held bash guards sandwitched and there was no talk of not using them). It is just a recommendation by Santa Cruz that if you do use it and happen to bend the ISCG tabs they won’t warranty the ISCG tabs. If we’re going to follow every manual to the letter, we wouldn’t be racing bikes, or taking bikes offroad because the manual states that type of riding isn’t covered under warranty.
Just set up mine today on a session 88. Not too easy, but easier than previous. I wish the upper guide was a little wider. It rubs on the highest and lowest gears, but still very solid, light, and easy to set up!
Even though I love all e13 components I still havw to say that a gamut still looks beetter anbd performs better than this lg1, yes I have tried both, and I still like the symplicity of the gamut guides
Has someone installed the LG1+ on a 06 Sunday? Is the upper clearance enough for the guide?
Don’t see why it wouldn’t’ work David. Send e13 an email if you want an official answer
