F1rst DVD Giveaway!

Box Art
Clay Porter’s film, F1rst, follows the 2007 UCI DH World Cup series through all of its trials and tribulations. Filmed in 16 countries on 4 continents, the film was shot in many locations. See more about what we thought about F1rst inside and enter to win a copy of it for yourself.
F1rst is a film that follows the 2007 World Cup and aims to explain some of the riders’ psyche in a more theatrical vision. Clay’s filming is second to none and F1rst delivers very well in this area. The film is shot in a documentary style approach and gives the audience a good bit of background to each of the players that Clay has chosen to talk about. Sam Hill’s segments are quite impressive and his famous run in Champery is also in this film.
One minor quibble with the film is in audio volume syncing. The audio volume raised / lowered between the music and the narration (somewhat monotone) had us adjusting the volume throughout the flick.
If you’re looking for a film to get some background on what the World Cup series is all about this is the movie for you. If you’re more into 100% riding films, this film may fall short for you. It’s still a good film to see at least once in our opinion and is done quite well.
Check out the trailer to the film below to get a sense of what Clay has packed into this movie.

As for action films, I am a big fan of ski, kayak and biking films. Obviously biking films are preferred! Some of the new films coming out in each of these areas are just incredible.
Many props to those folks spending hours behind the cam and video editing software.
I used to predominantly watch the big hit freeride videos (NWD style) because of the entertainment factor but having been exposed to downhill racing videos I can say that the latter style has done more for improving my riding. You really don’t learn as much from watching a guy throw himself off a 30 foot drop as you do by watching someone throw their body into a technical, curvy and rocky descent at high speed.
I like the most films with super fast pro dh riders riding some freeride trails (not race tracks), like Seasons, Virtuous… but racing films are also good
I want F1RST dvd !
I love the clay porter movies because they show the epic intensity of downhill racing.
I really like all of Clay’s films, they have a tendancy to get me super pumped to go ride. Some hate the commentary but I like it. I could watch the Champery section over and over again ( I actually have on youtube). Clay does an amazing job in capturing the moment for the race. I would like to see what the rest of the movie is like!
I love al films that includes dh-racing
MTB films like Earthed, Collective and F1RST!
I really like films that have a story. It doesn’t matter what the sport is, I like a film that I can show to someone who doesn’t mountain bike and they can grasp something about the sport more than “Wow, he can spin a lot to 80’s hair band music” I also am a racer and find that the slopestyle stuff is no where as exciting to watch. I envy the jumpers abilities, and guts, but the basic skills of ripping a corner apart are so much more intriguing to watch.
For sure I love them all, but I have a tendency to always go for the Dh racing movie, and every one of Clay’s movie are the best exemple for this. He really knows how to film all the Events..
Like almost anything, prefer ones with a story, similar to the Collective.
Personally, I like the films that All Out puts out. Very grassroots feeling and raw, yet the energy and intensity of DH is captured somewhat naturally. I like the Super 8 series quite a bit too. I have yet to see any of Clay Porter’s films, so this is a good way to start.
Anything racing-oriented or that shows fast DH sections is good in my book though!
I like films that tell us more about the riders themselves. If I just want pure biking, I’ll go on Youtube.
I’m generally a big fan of films from the Earthed series as well as the films from The Collective. Both show DH riding at its best and really get perspectives on riding that most movies can’t really achieve. I used to do some video production stuff for school, so I really appreciate the quality of the editing and cinematography that are seen in both of the aforementioned films. Some of the more home grown movies like All Out Grease are pretty impressive as well, but Between the Tape was a favorite for me this past winter. It was cool to see some perspective that only interviews of the riders themselves can really reveal. The filming also really captured the intensity and controlled chaos of a race that make DH such a sick sport.
Generaly I don’t watch movies, but the ones that look like a cant miss them, I make sure I see them. Mainly mtb/snowboarding videos. The trailer has to be really (!) good to get me to buy it.
wow thats all i can say F1 DH…
i just like movies that make me want to ride.
I’m a big fan of any action videos that have the elements to entertain… I like the hack-backyard productions, then switch to the big-budget hi-pro films. I wish there were more hi-def videos like NWD9 on Bluray. If The Collective or Earthed films go Bluray, I would re-purchase them without blinking an eye.
Clay porter`s are the bests. Since his firsts amateur movies to hypnosis, syspnosis, between the tape, first, and now the tipping point. Already saw the trailer, first day it came out.
The music and images are so coordinated, all is playing togheter, you are traveling in the movie, and forgetting all the rest.
Love what you do Clay.
I always enjoy the action sports movies that have great music. And Clay’s are some of the best. I especially enjoyed the Yeti vids.
i loved between the tape, so i have been very excited for this! i prefer this type of film for so then many other freeride movies i.e. crank. looks great, cant wait to see it at some point.
I’m more partial to mtb and inline skate videos. I’ve always watched inline skate vids since I was about 12 (this was 13 years ago and I still do it) but I prefer mtb movies by a big margin. The NWD series is great for a more light and entertaining feel. F1RST was more of a documentary to me than anything and it taught some of my friends who don’t ride a lot about DH racing. But I like movies that really bring things together like Seasons. The final section was one of the best I’ve seen because you just saw all these riders in their own element throughout the year, then it comes full circle and brings them all together for an epic piece, and the voiceovers (especially vanderhams) were fantastic. There are of course tons of other videos out there that are great as well, but NWD9, Seasons, and F1RST really offer an amazing experience from beginning to end.
I like films that take a segment and build it into a furious finish. That way you’re brought into the segment with a quick background/setting theme, then show some casual prep riding and move the segment into an ultimate finale of speed and emotion.
Rinse and Repeat.
I like films where there is diverse ride styles, good soundtracks and fast action. I am not big on dirt jumping and feel the films the last 5 years or so have been way overdone with it. I like DH and more freeride with great cinematography
I love Clay Porter’s films (Between the tape and F1rst). These films push me to ride better and faster. The Collective films are also great because of the near perfect filming locations and the fact that they are filmed with 16mm.
Mountain Bike films in general get me going… especailly since my 2 year old loves to watch them with me!
I’m not so much into the flashy bike porn with heavy metal hitting soundtrack but more of a progressive artistic film where the riding meets the production in a beautifully blended symphony.
I’m just a Collective fanboy, I absolutely loved Roam, and Seasons was fantastic. I picked up the mail in between final exams near the end of the school year and skipped studying for my math final to watch it!
films that show race runs in high quality are amazing, being able to see the way the bike performs in high speed situations is the best.
The Collective have made great mtb films.
can’t wait, looks awesome from the trailer. S
I love freeride and racing video’s the most….fast singletrack sections are my favourite.
Mountain biking videos hands down. As much as I may particpate in other sports in my opinion nothing matches the adrenaline and all out fun if biking. I used to really enjoy freeride videos, but I can’t tell you the last time I bought one, let alone watched one. I think the best videos put out there today are racing videos. Freeriding is good, but the excitement and atmosphere of a race venue is unparalleled. After watching videos like this, I have no choice but to get out on my bike and ride.
Downhill racing movies for sure! Good for long winter days where going riding isn’t and option…
Ever since between the tape i have loved the theme of a biking film based around primarily the Down Hill Discipline I still enjoy the freeride films occasionally because of the freedom and inspiration they give you.
I’m tired of the bike porn format. I love the feel of the collective series and Porter also does a nice job of telling a story. You know it’s good when your girl and kids come join you on the sofa for the duration.
I prefer comedies
I really like racing video’s the most…..
