Spotlight: Nuke Proof Generator Hubset 20mm / XL 150mm

Nuke Proof Generator hubs
Nuke Proof has some new products available. Inside we take a look at their 20mm and 150mm Generator hubset.
The 32 hole front Generator hub is convertible between 20mm and quick release. The end caps come off easily to make the transition from QR to 20mm.

The hubs are made of 7075 alloy and are quite easy to service without any special tools. There is a sub axle in the design which helps with thwart any troublesome bearings.

The 32 hole rear Generator Hub comes in a few different sizes (135mm QR, 135mm x 12mm, and 150mm x 12mm). We have the 150mm x 12mm XL version.

The hub features a total of six cartridge bearings to help spread the loads properly throughout the hub.

The hubs have got a 6 pawl system with leaf springs which are located in the main body. Typically the pawl mechanism is attached to the freehub body but it’s reversed in this design to try to increase the strength of the design. There are a total of 30 engagement points in the steel ratchet.

We’ve got these hubs installed and so far they’ve been smooth and reliable. They do not make much of any noise and the engagement is defintily more than adequate. They roll smoothly overall and haven’t made much of a peep. We’ll keep you posted as we get more miles on them.

Overall they’re a pretty light hubset and the price is right. You can easily find them for under $300 a set which makes them a very good bargain.

Lacing the wheels you’ll need to know the specs and they are as follows:
- The pitch circle diameter is 67 on all the hubs.
- The 150mm is 36mm non-drive side and 24mm drive side.
- The 20mm is 21.5mm left and 31.5mm right.

do you guys know if it is possible to run the 135qr hub with a rds thru bolt from dt swiss?
DT swiss’ RWS thru bolt comes in 10×135, but not 12×135. The QR Nuke proof wheel as far as I know uses a standard QR (not 10mm thru bolt) so I don’t think it will work. Try sending NukeProof an email to double check.
6 pawls - how many engage at once on those 30 points?
The rear pawls look similar to a WTB SuperDuty to me. Not a very robust design. Keep spare freehubs on hand.
No, more like a DMR 6Pawl… Or Q-lite.
Do these require an aluminium cassette body?
