2009 Intense Uzzi Prototype

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Jeff Steber posted some shots and details on mtbr of some prototype Intense Uzzi’s they’re working on for 2009.  Pictured below is a 135mm version (it can accepts standard qr / 12mm / maxle).  Since this is a prototype, anything could change (standard Intense replaceable dropouts option possibly, etc).

Sportin’ wood here; I really need to find a reason to buy another bike…THIS BIKE!

looks like an all mountain set up is good too.

This bike looks really nice, glad to see they’ve revised the cable routing and added some iscg tabs. Really like the fact they kept the full seat tube. I think that intense should make the dropouts a combo of both, replaceable and maxle compatible. One thing I do not like is the idea of reducing the travel. Low leverage ratio is good but why not work it out so that the shock stroke is longer instead of reducing the travel from 7.75 to 6.75-7.25. If this bike is put into production that will be three bikes that intense makes that are so similar, 6.6, 6.6 slopstyle and then this . why not 7.5 -7.75 inches of adjustable travel

I hope they will still be USA made. With Santa Cruz going to Taiwan with their “new generation VPP” it would be easy for Intense to follow suit

havent i seen this concept of frame work with under top tube mounted linkages kinda boaring ! look at a motocross bike like the ktm there are no linkages ,the frame is directly conected to the rear spring and that is directly bolted to the swingarm .This gives direct feedback of what the back is doing under hard riding, in turn making it much easier to set up the suspension ! (tried and tested)

Hopefully not as dentable as the Socom…those things are paper thin.

alan caruana carabez- you obviously know very little about the sport of mountain biking. The design of a KTM motorcycle, and a high end mountain bike are very different. The purpose of the VPP suspension design on this Intense bike is designed to counteract pedaling forces, brake jack, and is lighter and stronger side to side than a swingarm based suspension design.

my guess is that intense wil be scrapping the 6.6. w/ the reintroduction of the uzzi (assuming its a bit lighter than previous versions and noting that they’re showing w/ a 160mm fork instead of a 180mm - which ought to give you an idea where they’re going w/ this bike) and the recent introduction of the SS and the Tracer, the 6.6 will be pretty much redundant. intense makes great bikes (i ride an SS and am building a socom) but if you look at their lineup they’ve got way too many overlapping bikes: spider, spider fro, spider 29, 5.5, 5.5 fro, 5.5 29…that’s 6 bikes that they could probably condense into 3. hopefully they’ll see the light, narrow down their product line a bit and then be able to crank product out to dealers in a more reasonable timeframe.
