Red Bull Rampage Spectator Advisory

Here’s the official word on spectators for the Red Bull Rampage taking place October 2nd - 5th 2008. Spectators are welcome, but there are stipulations. Read the details inside.

Red Bull Rampage features the world’s greatest riders tackling the most intense terrain any contest has ever offered – no novices here. The same applies for spectators; this event is not for casual observers. The new Red Bull Rampage venue was chosen for its ability to challenge the riders and push their limits, so it is remote, hot, dangerous, and unforgiving.

Should you choose to attend, free parking is located at the intersection of Highway 9 and Camino Del Rio St. (approximately one mile east of downtown Virgin, UT). No transportation from the parking lot to the venue will be provided. From the lot, it is four miles to the contest venue over uneven desert terrain that you will either have to hike or pedal. If you ride it, you’ll need to check your bike at the on-site bike valet once you reach the contest venue, no exceptions. Spectators will be required to stay within designated viewing areas at the base of the course near the finish line – no exceptions. No pets will be allowed and non-adult spectators are not recommended. If this sounds harsh, that’s because it is; this isn’t a mountain resort, this is the desert. All on-site rules and requirements are necessary to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.

If you decide to attend, pack plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, extra layers of clothing, basic first-aid gear, and a flashlight/headlamp as no provisions will be available on-site. In other words, treat it like an unsupported weekend ride with your buddies. Think ahead, be smart, and come prepared!

damn, there playing hardball this year, damn valet, prob gonna charge you whistler prices…
also, what with the bottom veiwing areas only…

    still gonna be sick…

  • this is probably good, nothing worse than a bunch of drunk kids screaming, falling to the ground, using up undeserving medical attention and ruining what is a serious event for some spectators and all riders. oh wait did that happen this year at crankworx…or every year for that matter. i also remember when a bunch of “digicam-snapper nobody-idiots” got infront of wade simmons after his landing of a decent huck/hip..causing him to lay his bike down in the dirt…luckily he was fine. It seems like they don’t want spectators but don’t want to use the exact words to say it, they just want serious spectators who will go to those lengths because they want to come and enjoy the event.

  • I’m not sure how I feel about this. On one hand I see the safety aspect of things. I consider myself a dedicated biker but a 4 mile hike through the desert is just silly. If you told the participants to do that not a single one would show up. I think the fact that spectators are “uninvited” ruins the spirit of of the rampage. It can’t be that hard to organize a shuttle service for a small fee. It really does seem that they don’t want anyone to be there…sad.

  • I think its a perfectly fine expectation. Bring your bike and ride the arduous 4 miles. Comparing the terrain of Crankworx to Virgn is laughable.

The event will be memorable. Think about how you’ll tell your buddies you missed possibly one of the greatest showcases of biking because you couldn’t walk or ride 4 miles.  Its going to be epic and you’re going to miss it for a little walk / ride?

  • i was really looking foward to driving up and watching the event. not so much anymore, sounds like freeecaster might get a better spot than i do. :/

  • this is not about safety. they want to have that epic clear shots of riders without crowds getting in the way. sponsors… we’ve got to love them, right?

  • The contest venue is in Zion National Park. They are lucky to even be using the venue at all. These rules were, I’m sure, set by the Park Service.

  • I’m thinking either bring a moto or get some people shutteling each other…. rock, paper, scisorrs.
and for sh*ts and giggels if they give you a heard time have that Coca cola or competing energy dirt shirt underneath! but hey thats only if they piss you off for no reason.

  • it’s gonna be great

  • is it really in Zion? I can’t fathom them allowing a bunch of bikers to mark-up a mountain side. That’s surprising.

  • What’s the big deal a little walk or ride sounds like a great idea to me. I plan on riding a lot when I get there anyways.
This is going to be sick!

  • You really think they’d have it in Zion National Park? Not sure where that info came from.

  • Kind of like the fact that this will censor the fat scrubs and Sunday drivers

  • It’s not in Zion NP its just nearby.
