2009 Mavic Deemax Gets Overhauled

2009 Mavic Deemax

Bikeradar has got some information up on an updated Deemax wheelset from Mavic. The updated wheelset features a new freehub, upgraded hubset, more engagement, lighter weight, better spoke retention, and much more.

“The weight comes off from nearly every component: the rims are treated to a new spined Inter Spoke Milling (ISM) treatment, the all-new hubs are more aggressively machined and the stainless steel spokes are now double-butted.”

    I love Mavic hoops!!

BUT!!…. Mavic wheelsets dont fit the bill, I bought myself a brand new 07 Deemax Wheelset (150mm rear) and since day one it had issues! I love servicing my bike but when its every 2 days to keep everything in tip top shape, it can get very annoying!!

I now have a King laced to 823 and I havent had one hiccup up-to-date!!! Plus the king build-up cost alittle bit less that a Deemax rear wheel, And I have instant engagement!!

  • I would agree with you in that the old Mavic Deemax hubs left much to be desired.

These NEW ones show a lot of promise! Time will tell though, but these aren’t the Deemax hubs of yesterday.

  • So reading from the Press release..

The rear hub is going to have a new 2 pawl freehub with engagement every 7 degrees?.. I would love to see a pic of the internals… See whats going on in there!..

It all comes down to what the consumer wants… When I bought my set, I wanted a Factory built set or a Hand-built set. Both are good ideas and both cost about the same…

I know around here a Deemax wheelset (150 rear) retails around 1450$…. A handbuilt set of Kings on your choice of rim is around that…

  • Well, ive have a set of 05 deemax & they have performed flawlessly for over 3yrs now! Only had the rear hub serviced once in that time! Awesome wheel set & i would have no hesitation in buying another set if and when i eventually need too! The new ones look & sound like they are even better….

  • i have cracked two deemax rims and had problems with the hubd
but once servicing the hub once no more problems and with the new 19 rims none as well seem strong for now !
