Republik MTB Apparel

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

A while back Matt Sweeney from Republik MTB out of Bend, Oregon contacted us about looking at their gear. Being the curious lot that we are we had Matt send us over some Republik gear for us to check out. With a progressive attitude and clean designs Republik is a MTB clothing company to look out for. Find out more about Republik and their clothing inside.

We received their KGB short as well as their Caldera and Flagline jerseys. The fit and finish of the garments were pretty much spot on. Republik used high quality materials and the construction was on par with other MTB clothing manufacturers. Below we’ll give you some more specific data on each of the garments as well as some questions and answers from Republik.

Who is Republik?

Republik is a coalition of riders, designers, artists and a couple bike mechanics thrown in to make sure everything runs smoothly. We are part business, part art collective. Collaborating with the two of the best designers in the industry, Travis Collier a pro Bmx’er, and Victor Pantet a former pro skater, we created a progressive brand that reflects us as riders, artists, trailbuilders and designers.

Why did you start Republik?

With the explosion of motocross and action sports companies crossing over into the MTB scene we felt like the roots of MTB had been overlooked. We wanted to launch a core apparel brand that’s built by riders for riders. MTB for life.

What is your design philosophy?

Our focus is to create superior outerwear with progressive style. Basically we wanted to make gear that we actually wanted to wear.

What does the future hold for Republik?

We have some great things on the horizon. We are about a month away from launching a few new products. First, is a riding specific jean. It’s a denim and spandex blend with a gusseted crotch for maximum flexibility. We used heavy duty motocross stitching to make sure the seams don’t blow out. We also added a latch system on the right leg to help keep your pant leg from getting caught up in the chain. We’re excited because there’s nothing out there like these jeans. We are also launching a couple signature series tees designed by Travis Collier. Aside from being an amazing illustrator, he’s a sick BMX’er with his own signature frame and seat with MacNeil BMX.

Do you have any new sponsored riders?

The crew continues to grow as we just signed Adam Hauck to our Pro Team. Competing against the some worlds best riders at the Nissan Qashqai events in Europe, Adam finished 8th in the finals and 12th overall. With his blue collar mentality and his progressive riding style we feel Adam will be a great addition to the Republik Team.

Where can you purchase Republik gear?

As far as the dealers, we’re sold in retailers across the US. We can be purchased online at AZ Bikeparts and Bluesky Cycling.

Republik is in their third year of production with lots of products in the pipe. Their philosophy is sound and their ambition is ever increasing. 2008 has been a good year so far for the Republik team continuing their drive and enthusiasm for the sport.
