Friday, March 28th, 2008
The NEW Atlas FR crank joins the 2008 line up and mixes high strength with a low lightweight package to help meet the demands of riders. Three BB shell options means compatibility with your DH, FR or All mountain bikes will not be an issue. Read a few more details inside that Raceface passed along on their new cranks.
Designed for long travel bikes, the ATLAS FR is a limited edition product, engineered for riders that want a lightweight, FR/DH specific crank. Awesome, at 1085g its just below the saint and a great option for people that want more strength than a xt or hone.

Any chance you know the MSRP?

woo! finally something 83mm and light, and hopefully less than middleburns to fit my bike rack!
March 29th, 2008 at 7:46 am
Look really nice.
Does anybody have an idea of single chainring setup weight.(minus bashy etc)
March 29th, 2008 at 9:34 am
They won’t be less than Middleburns, I can guarantee you that.
Price’s will be similar to the regular Atlas offerings.
We’ll get a weight breakdown / more info soon on them and a lil feature once they arrive. By the claimed numbers they gave it should be right around 780-800g for the crankarms.
March 29th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
but the fsa gravity lite will be lighter, right?
March 30th, 2008 at 3:11 am
sorry, i meant cost wise. not very clear when i re-read it!

The claimed weight 780-800 grams would have to be including bottem bracket. Correct ?
Because the bashy and chainrings alone would be around 200 odd grams.

1085g claimed weight on the doulbe w/bash setup
*(rough estimate)
- 22/32 rings (-79g)
-34t bash (-139g)
-granny ring spacer (-9g)
- chainring bolts (-26g)
- RF bb (-113g)
means about 718g for the 175mm arms alone.
Add a lightweight bb (80g) and you’re right around 800g for a 165mm setup. We’ll get the real numbers soon but this is just an educated guess.

The FSA Gravity Lights are still lighter at 794g single ring and 1011g dual w/ bash and bb.
March 30th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
The FSA Gravity Lights have cut the weight in the wrong places. The cranks arms themselves aren’t much lighter than the 07 Gravity arms. The weight shaving is primarily the bb. The FSA bb cups have a shallower insertion and a single cartridge bearing per side. Stiff cranks with a weak bb you do the math. They won’t last a summer of riding you could race em and replace em buy why? If I can get the Atlas cranks with the redesigned Raceface bb at a weight gain of only 6g then the choice is a no brainer. Just my two bits.

Mike, the gravity light weights you have provided are for the 165mm length crankset. Race faace provided the weight of the 175mm length crankset as stated above.
Claimed weight: 1085g (175mm with double ring bash & BB)
I have already got some lined up, just waiting for the write up by S.L
