- Meets or exceeds DOT and European ECE standards. Most bike helmets don’t offer these ratings and the ECE standard is one that RockGardn is very proud to bring to you as it is more applicable to the types of mountain bike crashes that occur. SNELL restrictions can be frowned upon since they can often yield a helmet that is too hard and not absorb a single shock as well as a softer helmet. The ECE22.05 provides that middle ground that is very good for motocross and downhill bike helmets.

- ECE22.05 (Economic Community of Europe) Approved (European standard more stringent than DOT)
“If you’re not comfortable with a helmet that only meets the US Government DOT standard, what do you look for? Historically, American riders have looked for a Snell label but the world is getting smaller and we now have other viable alternatives. The ECE 22.05 standard is used in over 50 European countries, including Germany, a country known for taking a hard line on personal protection.
Helmets certified to the ECE 22.05 standard are approved for competition events by AMA, CCS, FIM, Formula-USA and WERA and are chosen by nearly every professional motorcycle racers competing in world championship road racing, motocross and off road events, including the ultimate sport of Moto GP. Helmets that are certified to both DOT and ECE 22.05 offer the highest level of realistic protection with the added benefit of light weight for day-long comfort and rider performance. “

The Blacklite is a good fitting helmet that doesn’t feel overly bulky while still offering excellent protection. The helmet is a little bit larger than a typical downhill bicycle helmet but not overly large like a motocross helmet.
If you’re looking to purchase one of these fine helmets and have any questions, feel free to drop RockGardn a phone call or check their website out for more information. The Blacklite brings a lot to the table at a very affordable price. They’ll make sure you get the right size and answer any questions you might have.

A rubberized finish can’t be very good for safety. Yes it passed the impact test but failed to account for the fact that a smooth, hard outer shell resists punctures and allows the helmet to slide across the impacting object. This reduces the energy transfered to the neck.

Its not “rubberized” in the sense you’re thinking. Think of it more as a thin spray than a penetrable texture.

Just got one a few weeks back. No time with it on other than in the house but feels great. It is a bit bigger all around than my TL D2 but not crazy big. When I was looking for sizing I called RG for some help and they went above and beyond what I expected. If you have any questions about the helmet give them a call and ask away they may even give you more info (but great) than asked for.

This is the first comment I have posted on here. I had to add that this helmet is awesome. I’ve used 2 other DH style helmets in the past, which both sucked. After those I tried (very briefly) an actual MX helmet. It was far too big and heavy. The Blacklite strikes the perfect middle ground between the flimsy POS “DH helmets” and a full-bore MX helmet.
If you are even thinking about one, go for it. I bought mine last Aug/Sept and have used it many times since. I feel ill-equipped without it. Worth every cent.
