Bike Build: Project 37.5lb Blindside

    Ivan - We were trying out different steel springs first to determine which one is right.

    Additionally its one of the easy things to change out to save more weight if you want to.

    the wheel weights are even more impressive, you’ve only added the weight of one tube to the tubed sets!

    Goodgrief- That’s what 2 XC tubes weigh in at but a lot of people run heavier dh/fr tubes but we wanted to give the tubed option a fighting chance in the comparison.

    Just wondering - would Stan’s sealant be necessary for a 823/Michi DH Comp 16 combo? Or would the seal be tight enough as it is?

    Ben- Using UST Rims and UST tires require no Stans. But it doesn’t hurt to add some tubeless solution to a ust setup. UST was designed/made to work without the need for Stans and has been around longer. Stans does make the system better though.

    Cliff - I think you’re thinking of the Socom..?

    Laurent - You can order Black lowers from your Sram/RockShox dealer.

    Oops Socom… You’re right. Nice that it’s 37 with the floater. That’s lighter than my Bottlerocket… P.S. Polished Saint cranks? XT?

    not my personal favorite flavor of vitamin water….i can’t wait for that real review though, the bike is pretty decked out. that transition seat looks surprisingly comfy. also, what made you choose XTs over Hones? it seems like the weight difference between the 2 is minimal.

    XT’s are available in 165mm, Hone’s are not.

    I’m a fan of the Focus Kiwi, but as was pointed out above, the Dragonfruit bottle matches.

    That is a sick build. I would think it would have been lighter though. My medium 2006 V-10 (2 lbs heavier than 2008) weighs 39lb10oz with 11/32 cassette, Diabolus Cranks, Deemax wheels, Avid Codes, and not even a SDG seat yet. Theoretically, I could build a 2008 V-10 down to 36 lbs with lighter wheels, cranks, seat/seatpost, ti bolts, and Dura Ace cassette, Formula brakes and lighter hoses. That is what I would like to see Sicklines build. With large budget could probably build 10 inch travel 35-36lb beast! The lightest DH bike I have seen is a Sunn tipping just over 34lbs!

    Hey Travis,

    Yea we could easily cut more weight on the blindside without sacrificing any sort of durability really to it. The point wasn’t to build the lightest blindside we could.

    Expect to see more bike builds in the near future. There is never an issue of “budget” necessarily when we build bikes, but focus’ more on a point to a build.

    The Socom will be light…
