Syncros FBI 1.5 Reducing Headset
Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
Syncros started as a high end component company on Vancouver’s north shore. Syncros has been making bike components for a long time and the FBI 1.5 embodies a lot of their knowledge in creating durable and solid products. The FBI 1.5 is designed to reduce a onepointfiveâ„¢ headtube’s inner diameter so that you can run your 1 1/8†fork. Think this is like your typical 1.5″ reducing headset? Think again.
The FBI headset is quite a unique reducing headset. It looks like a conventional reducing headset on the surface, however it is quite unique. The upper 7075 alloy cup houses an Enduro bearing inside the cup. The lower cup is made of steel and uses a massive Enduro taper roller bearing (30/4972) instead of the conventional sealed bearing that is often seen in high end headsets.

” Tapered roller bearings consist of four interdependent components: the cone, or inner ring; the cup, or outer ring; the tapered rollers, or rolling elements; and the cage, or roller retainer. The taper angles allow the bearing to handle a combination of radial and thrust loads. The steeper the cup angle, the greater the ability of the bearing to handle thrust loads.” -timken.com

The FBI headset is a bit heavier than most reducing headset at 286g due in part mostly to the the lower steel cup and massive Enduro lower bearing. Syncros says that this setup can take some massive loads and we’ll see how well it works and holds up!

If the tapered bearings can stay clean this will probably outlast just about everything else
I like the design.

Nice job. Syncros puts out a great product.
The FBI headset looks as nice as the
steel Syncros xc racing cranks they put out
back in the late 90’s.
