Azonic Outlaw Wheelset

If you’re looking for an economically priced wheelset that won’t break the bank but can stand up to some abuse, check out the Azonic Outlaw wheelset inside. Available in 135mm/150mm QR/20mm, these wheels will fit just about every bike out there out of the box.

The Azonic Outlaw wheelset isn’t expensive and is built quite strong. They’ve been recommended by lots of downhill and freeriders for good reason. We got a hold of some to see what they have to offer and its pretty impressive given their price tag. The rear freehub uses the pawl system in the hub to put the power down in the back. The wheels roll smoothly due in part to the sealed cartridge bearings inside the hubs.

The white rims were pretty flashy but you can get them in a black variant as well. The stickers weren’t laid on the best but that’s a small hiccup in this great deal.

The Azonic Outlaw wheelset uses Alex Supra D rims built to 36h hubs. The pawls in the rear hub could stand to be a little beefier to stand up to a bit more abuse. These rims aren’t too heavy (~600g), are solid, and should last quite awhile.

The wheelset includes sealed cartridge bearing disc hubs and a heavy-duty rim. All necessary parts are included to convert from thru-axle to QR. There are no additional adapters necessary to purchase. The rear stock axle included is 12mm x 135mm and is pretty hefty at 192g. Purchasing a lighter axle can save a quick 100g in the axle alone. You can also purchase a step down axle from Azonic if you’re running 10mm dropouts and still want the benefits of a solid thru-axle.

If you’re balling on a budget and need a wheelset that is less than $300, the Azonic Outlaw wheelset is hard to beat. They lack the frills of some more expensive wheels but for the price it’s pretty hard to beat what you get out of the Azonic’s. If you’re looking for a set, you can get some directly from JensonUSA for a killer price, or Azonic (1-800-326-6325) (ask for Jose). Additionally any good bike shop can order them from BTI.

Do you know what hubs they are?
I lost the 20mm spacer to the front wheel and need to get a spare part. Needless to say, Azonic has been absolutely no help in getting spare parts from…..never again buy an Azonic product.

Call Jose at Azonic and ask him. He’s more than helpful and i’m sure can help you out.

These hubs are sold as Veltec DH Hubs in Germany - Price is about 45 USD Front and 70 USD Rear.
If you lost something - you´ll maybe get spare parts from other Hubs of the same Asian Producer.
Here they´re very common.

you have weight of the hubs by any chance?
December 9th, 2007 at 12:42 pm
Nope we didn’t. Someone else weighed them and said they seem pretty close to our #’s if you add the weights up.
They got:
front stock: (no adapters / skewers)
rear stock: (no skewers, guessing QR with QR Axle)

I just picked up a pair of these for less than $250. Definitely swap out that boat anchor rear axle and you have a sweet pair of wheels for cheap. Keep an eye on the spokes early on, they come loose but once you retension you’re good to go.

azonic customer service sucks… i have never gotten what i needed and i have been waiting well over 3 times the shipping time for it to get here. i have re-ordered again and again and have nothing but poor reviews for this company… products not bad but i hate the ppl that work there… i talked to all 3 employees and jose seemed helpful but apparently he sent my hub spacers to the wrong adress… i bet its the same mistake again and it will be till i give up and just have a useless wheel
