Review: Five Ten Low Impact 2 Shoe
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007
5.10 has raised the bar in what a mountain bike shoe should do with their sticky S1 rubber sole. Ridden by a plethora of Pro downhillers by choice, these shoes don’t mess around when it comes to traction. See what we thought about them inside.

In addition to your review, these shoes have inner soles which can be removed and allow the shoe to have orthotics in them. There is plenty of room for full length orthotics which have lots of padding. If you do not have orthotics the inner soles provided allow a proper shoe fit with no movement.
The sole grip is easy to get used to. Foot placement becomes second nature after not much use, The grip is very useful for riding and does not take long to get used to it(perhaps dirt jumpers who want to fly off there bike will porbably pass at this shoe). Go back or try ‘other’ shoes on the same pedals and you will realise the superiority of the 5.10’s.
Pair these with a set of DMR V12 Mag pedals and you have a killer combo.
I went from cleats to 5.10’s and highly recommend them. This is one of the few products I cannot fault. I am an aggressive bike rider and I ride every day on a DH bike. These shoes are the best.

I have been running 5.10 since the get go. Awesome product for sure. Glad they are back.
Like anything new the shoes have a break in period. The rubber is crazy sticky for a bit but eventually settles in to a reasonable/ideal tackiness. Also, I’ve never caught them on anything in corners… not even when new.
One feature I’d like to see added is raised inside ankle protection in the low top. Or, just bring back the mid and forget high & low.

good feedback. These shoes paired with any pedal is really tolerable.
Regarding the sticking to objects with the side of the shoe, i can personally say its happened (although nothing bad) but i’ve also seen the repercussions of others trying to dab on a rock and get their ankle twisted as a result.
