Rapid Racer Neo Guard
Friday, October 26th, 2007Browsing Desecent-World and stumbled upon the Neo Guard. If you’ve been in the DH game for awhile, this piece needs no explaining. Its basically a mud guard and the design works quite well.
Racers would use an old tube and zip ties but perhaps more of these will show up. Functionally I can’t see anything this Neo Guard offers over a tube except for re-usability and less setup. Esthetically it looks a bit cleaner and you can run your teams logos on them. They’re offering it in AM/XC/DH formats.

So, it’s an expensive tube?

They said the same things about chainstay protectors
Marketing departments constantly churning out the uninspired…

I have seen these on xc racer bikes too (maybe on the new Sids). I don’t really get it…where does it keep the mud from going? on you? On the frame?

jtdcg, haven’t you ever been going fast enough in clumpy mud to start throwing it infront of you, only to catch up to said clump and get whacked with it in the face?

They say no press is bad press although we did love the contradictions in the opening statements, gave us a good chuckle…..
Quote….”I can’t see anything the NeoGuard offers”….and then immediately after…… “apart from re-usability, less set up, asthetically cleaner, and you can run your team logo’s on it”…..very funny.
We would also like to add to a few more to the list of things it doesn’t offer……It’s extremely lightweight (29g for the LARGE), it continues to stay light through heavy mud throwing contents off each time the fork compresses, you can roll it up and put it in your back pack not needing to run it unless the weather turns nasty, and you no longer have to run a cut up innertube on your very expensive bike….try one you might like it!
For those who haven’t seen this principle before…. it’s primary use is as a mudguard, it’s designed to reduce the amount of mud being thrown into your face (mud leaves the tyre and travels through the forks up into the air and into your face). Many riders and teams are also loving the brand awareness offered by the customised logo’s.
We’ve been using tubes for years on the National DH scene and it is tried and tested mudguard.
Take care….

It was meant to be read like that, don’t take every word so literal
You took 1/2 a sentence midway through the post and twisted this into bad pr, funny.
There’s a reason why we show up so high when you search.
A smarter idea would’ve been to send us one!
There are obviously benefits to it and they are addressed to refute someone’s stream of consciousness by first glance thinking one would think that thing does nothing more than a tube, then looking at it further (in the same sentence mind you) look at the item further to see what it has to offer. You’re hilarious.
I don’t have one in front of me, or ever used a Neo Guard so there’s only so much insight you can really draw and there are negatives that I’m sure would arise once I got one in my hand.
Functionally the main point of this guard is the exact same as a tube on the surface, to be a mud guard.
Tubes have been proven, the NeoGuard hasn’t
Additionally it is is over $30 USD (13.95 pounds + shipping), and to make it custom is another $10 (3.95-4.95 pounds). A tube is lighter than the Neo Guard, hence why we didn’t see it necessary to give that as a reason to buy one.
Don’t expect everyone to keel over for you when racers have been cutting a tube up for ages with great success. It’s cheap and it doesn’t matter if you loose it, or leave it at home.
Good luck!

does everything the same as a bit of old tube,
with your logo on it, very american. and costs you another £20, not convinced, i feel like i’ve been sold old rope. and once it is muddy, bang goes the logo.
you can fold it up and put it in your bag, not really a selling point, you’d be suprised what also fits in a bag, keys, multi tool phone lots of stuff. its basically the same as saying, you can use it, or you, get this, dont have to!!!
not a fan really

I’ve been cutting up old inner tubes for every wet and fast ride since 1998. After I used the Neoguard in wet Whistler at the start of the 08 season I have not taken it off.
It’s a positive rating from me and the friends who have tried mine.
It really pays off on darker days when not having to use goggles is a bonus.
