Sun Ringle A.D.D. Wheelset

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

We’ve got a hold of some Sun Ringle A.D.D. (Another Damn Downhiller) wheels to test out. We’ll keep you updated on how well they work but for now here’s some details on them.

A.D.D. Wheelset Specifications

Front wheel weight came in at 1127g and the rear wheel came in at 1294g for a total wheelset weight of 2421g.

The hubs are Jumping Flea’s and really keep the weight down. We’ll see how they last in the long term but so far they’re working fine out of the box. They’re equipped with a bit more XC oriented hubset, have 24 points of engagement (every 15 degrees), and the engagement is quiet unilike the DH Sun Ringle Abbah hub.

Do you know how much weights the MTX rim only?

  2. sicklines Says:

I haven’t had a chance to weigh one, but it’s supposed to be 640g

What does “and the engagement is quiet unilike the DH Sun Ringle Abbah hub.” mean?

Im ridding an abbah now but can feel it’s chunkyness-although I am very impressed with the hub.

In terms of the hubs loudness, do they compare?

    Brendan,

Basically every time you hear a click as you move the pedals or just turn the hub, thats the hub engaging. The engagement on the Jumping Flea is a whole lot quieter than the Abbah hub (and has less engagement points than the Abbah). It’s borderline silent in comparison to the Abbah. 24 engagement points means that if you rotate the body 360 degrees, the hub will engage 24 times (you’ll hear 24 clicks on the Jumping Flea).

The higher the number of engagement points in a hub essentially means the faster response you’ll get from the hub which translates into snappier power. With higher engagement #’s, the hub will apply your pedaling movements faster to the rear end which is a good thing.

i was wondering if you know if sun ringle has those a.d.d. rims in silver?

  6. sicklines Says:

i can’t say that i’ve ever seen them in silver but i have seen the same rim that the A.D.D. uses in silver. maybe give them a call / email and ask.

  7. kirk Says:

does it come with a 10mm subaxle and/or is there one available?

  8. sicklines Says:

this is a 150mm rear wheel. I’m not aware of any 150mm hub that is 10mm. Everyone one i know of is 12mm.

That said, axle’s come with the frame and not the wheels which is pretty standard with 12mm bikes as not every bike uses the same axle.
