Review: Crud ZX Fender

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

The purpose of a fender is to keep the mud and water off the riders face and more importantly their eyes. The CRUD ZX offers this protection as well as a sleek design. Combining great looks with its unique mounting system the CRUD ZX has both form and function. Read more inside.

The Crud ZX is a simple design that works quite well. It uses two 0-ring’s to fasten the fender to the downtube of a bike. It’s lightweight at only 52grams so there’s no reason not to run one when the conditions turn nasty. It installs and removes very easily.

The Crud ZX was designed in Europe (fender of choice for Steve Peat) and they have sold over 1 million of them. It is constructed out of 100% polypropylene making it flexible and durable.

It comes in three colors to fit most any bike’s style: Clear, Gray, and Black.

The Crud ZX is a cinch to setup and works as advertised. It keeps mud, debris, roost, and most everything else from the front wheel away from the face.

The only way the Crud ZX might have some issues fitting to the downtube of your bike is if the shape of the downtube is very unique or awkward. The O-rings are flexible but could prove to be a little bit harder to install depending on the size of your downtube. It’d be nice if they could include some additional bands for wider downtubed bikes.

At only $14.99 retail, the Crud ZX should be a no brainier in muddy riding or in adverse conditions. It’s easy to set up and offers a nice stylish look. The beauty of it is that it installs and comes off very easily without any adhesives.
